India’s 10-year bond yield has reached its lowest level in nine months due to a decline in US bond yields

The Indian government bond yields edged towards a significant low on Monday as the benchmark bond yield hovered around 7%, a level not seen in nine months.

 This movement was driven by declining U.S. yields, amidst expectations of a rate cut in June by the Federal Reserve.

 The benchmark 10-year yield was recorded at 7.0093% at 10:00 a.m. IST, slightly lower than its previous close of 7.0312%. Earlier in the day, it touched 7.0071%, the lowest since June 14, 2023. 

Traders are actively engaging in strong purchases in anticipation of breaking the 7% mark for the Indian 10-year bond, with the 10-year U.S. yield close to 4% instead of 4.20%. 

The U.S. bond yields dropped to a five-week low following strong job growth in February, leading to expectations of rate cuts by the Fed later this year.

 Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s remarks further solidified these expectations, with a 75% probability of a rate cut in June.

 Inflation data releases for both India and the U.S. in February will also be closely monitored by traders, setting the stage for policy decisions. India’s inflation is predicted to have decreased to 5.02% in February.

CBDT is sending emails and SMS to taxpayers to alert them of potential tax discrepancies for the financial year 2024

The Income Tax Department is launching an electronic campaign to alert individuals or entities about discrepancies in tax payments and financial transactions. 

Emails and SMS are being sent to notify taxpayers of significant financial transactions in the assessment year 2024-25. The department is urging those who have not paid taxes in accordance with their financial transactions to calculate and pay the correct advance tax before March 15.

 The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) stated that certain persons/entities have been identified where tax payments do not match their transactions, based on information received for the financial year 2023-24. This initiative aims to enhance transparency, encourage voluntary tax compliance, and make tax services more accessible to taxpayers. 

Taxpayers can access details of significant transactions by logging into their e-filing accounts and visiting the compliance portal. Those not yet registered on the e-filing website must first complete the registration process.

 Previously, the Income Tax Department had notified taxpayers of discrepancies in tax payments and high-value financial transactions for the financial year 2020-21, urging them to file updated tax returns by March 31.

IOC’s Paradip refinery in Odisha will produce F1 racing petrol in three months, making it the first Indian company to do so. The fuel will be certified and meet the strict regulations set by FIA. Previously, IOC helped India join the league of nations producing specialized reference fuels. 

The company also supplies premium fuels with higher octane numbers for luxury cars and bikes, as well as a game-changing diesel variant. The company is now entering the racing fuels segment with ‘Storm’ petrol for motorcycle racing.
