Congress posted an image of a burning khaki shorts amid claims by the grand old party that the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ has rattled BJP.

A social media post by Congress featuring a pair of khaki shorts caused a major row on Monday as BJP accused the party of resorting to “old tricks again”. Congress’s official Twitter handle posted an image of burning khaki shorts typically worn by members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological fountainhead of the BJP. (Also Read | What the Bharat Jodo Yatra will mean for Rahul Gandhi and the Congress)

Making the reference obvious, Congress wrote, “To free the country from shackles of hate and undo the damage done by BJP-RSS. Step by step, we will reach our goal. #BharatJodoYatra”

The tweet comes amid Congress’s aggressive social media campaign to promote the Bharat Jodo Yatra, a 150-day mass contact programme led by former party chief Rahul Gandhi.

Sources in the BJP accused Congress of advocating the killing of people who believe in a particular ideology, adding that the “so called Bharat Jodo reveals its true intentions” of Congress’s campaign. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said it is not the first time that Congress has resorted to such politics, and called on the grand old party to delete the post immediately.

“It’s not ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ but ‘Bharat Todo’ and ‘Aag Lagao Yatra’… I want to ask Rahul Gandhi do you want violence in this country? Congress should take down this picture immediately,” he said.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the tweet represents “a shameful mindset” of Congress.

“Congress Party is not even hiding its true intentions. In the garb of ‘Bharat Jodo’, it is indulging in ‘Bharat Todo’. India will not forgive them for their intentions of hurting nationalists!” he tweeted.

Jitin Prasada, a former Congressman and now a minister in the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government, said that political differences are natural and understandable “but what sort of mindset calls for burning political opponents?”

“This politics of negativity and hate should be condemned by all.”

Lok Sabha member Tejasvi Surya alleged that Congress fire burnt Delhi in 1984, in an apparent reference to Sikh riots, and they have again given their ecosystem a call for violence. “With Rahul Gandhi ‘fighting against Indian State’, Congress ceases to be party with faith in constitutional means,” he tweeted.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “That ends a nightmare tournament for Babar as a batter. Same disaster for Fakhar.”

This combination is not working. Pakistan has to look into a lot of things. Fakhar, Iftikhar, Khushdil all need to be looked into. And Rizwan, 50 off 50 is not going to work anymore. Doesn’t benefit Pakistan. Hats off to Sri Lanka. What a team”, he also added.

Babar has been in poor batting form for Pakistan in the continental showpiece and could only register five runs off six balls during the chase in the final. The sole responsibility of Pakistan’s batting during the tournament fell on Rizwan, who had a poor outing on Sunday. A four-wicket haul from Pramod Madushan helped Sri Lanka bowl out Pakistan for 147 in 20 overs. Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga took three wickets and Chamika Karunaratne bagged two dismissals. Initially, Bhanuka Rajapaksa slammed an unbeaten knock of 71 runs off 45 balls to help Sri Lanka reach 170 for six in 20 overs. Meanwhile, Hasaranga contributed with the bat too, slamming 36 runs off 21 balls.

After Pakistan’s defeat, Babar said, “Congratulations to Sri Lanka for playing outstanding cricket. We dominated them for the first eight overs, but the partnership that Rajapaska got was amazing. This was a true wicket and it is always nice playing in Dubai. We didn’t bat according to our potential. We started well, but we gave away 15-20 extra runs and couldn’t finish well.”

“A lot of positives for us to take. In a final, the margin for mistakes is lesser. Our fielding wasn’t up to the mark and the batting couldn’t finish it off well. But Rizwan, Naseem and Nawaz were positives. Ups and downs will be there, but it would be nicer if we made lesser mistakes.”

Meanwhile, Rizwan felt Sri Lanka took advantage of Pakistan’s mistakes. “They played like true champions, they deserve the win. They put us under pressure at key moments and won the match despite losing the toss. We committed mistakes and Sri Lanka took advantage of that. They took the momentum away from us towards the end in both the innings”, he said.

Brahmastra has earned $26.5 million ( ₹212 crore) worldwide in its first three days, making it the number one film in the world this weekend.

Brahmastra has been a breath of fresh air for the Hindi film industry. The Ayan Mukerji fantasy epic has earned ₹120 crore at the Indian box office over its opening weekend, one of the highest ever for a Hindi film. But that’s not all. The film has also created waves internationally, ruling the charts in Australia and New Zealand and opening strong in the US. As per US box office tracker Box Office Mojo, Brahmastra Part One- Shiva has raked in $26.5 million ( ₹212 crore) worldwide in its opening weekend. Of this, $4.4 million has come from the US market alone. This figure makes it the highest-grossing film in the world for the September 9-11 weekend, outdoing indie flick Barbarian ($10.5 million), and past blockbusters like Bullet Train and DC League of Super Pets. The ₹212 crore figure is also important because that means that the film has registered the highest-ever opening weekend for a Bollywood film, beating Sultan’s ₹206 crore. However, there is a rider. This weekend has been one of the lowest-performing ones in the US as there were no major releases due to the 9/11 attacks’ anniversary.

However, it is still an impressive achievement for the film. In fact, only two Indian films have ever topped the worldwide box office in their opening weekend and both were from down south. Last year, Vijay’s Master had topped the global charts when it released in January 2021, earning over $16 million and beating Chinese film A Little Red Flower ($11.7 million). And then, earlier this year, SS Rajamouli’s RRR shattered records by amassing over $60 million in its opening weekend, beating The Batman, which earned $45 million during the same time period.

Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Mouni Roy, also features Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Shah Rukh Khan in extended cameos. The film has done particularly well in the south territories too, breaking the single-day earnings record for a Hindi film in Tamil Nadu and earning close to ₹20 crore in AP and Telangana.

The district court in Varanasi on Monday rejected the Anjuman Intezamia Committee’s plea challenging Hindu worshippers’ request for permission for daily worship of Hindu deities in the Gyanvapi mosque.

The district judge had last month reserved the order till September 12 in the communally sensitive matter. The case was being heard by the district court following a Supreme Court order.

Earlier, a lower court had ordered a videographic survey of the complex. The survey work was completed on May 16 and the report was submitted before presented in the court on May 19.

According to the Hindu side, a Shivling was found during the videographic survey of the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri complex, but it was contested by the Muslim side.

Surprisingly this is not a story of “jack of all trades and master of none” Ahamm is a successful singer-song writer- performer. He is also a brilliant artist who loves big walls, sculpting, roof paintings, digital art and installations too! He does not stop there. The world of films also found a place in his heart and alas! scripting and direction as well. He has acted and assisted for commercial movies too.
