Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi’s much awaited film Godfather is all set to release on October 5. The film’s trailer was released on Wednesday at the pre-release event which took place in Anantpur. The trailer introduces Chiranjeevi’s character Brahma, who has a huge following but also many enemies in the political world. The video also features Nayanthara and Satya Dev’s characters, who are right in the middle of the fight for power.

The trailer of Godfather, which recently received a U/A certificate, hits a high point with the entry of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who joins Chiranjeevi’s fight, calling him his elder brother. Going by the trailer, the film seems to be high on drama and the action promises to be top notch.

Godfather is the Telugu remake of Mohanlal’s Malayalam film Lucifer, which marked the directorial debut of actor Prithviraj Sukumaran. The Telugu remake is directed by Mohan Raja. The film’s promotional song “Thaar Maar”, featuring Chiranjeevi and Salman Khan, was released earlier, creating a lot of buzz in both the Hindi and Telugu belt.

Story

Vikram Vedha is the story of a cop trying to catch an infamous criminal. Vedha (Hrithik Roshan) is a gangster based in Lucknow who has committed 16 murders till date. He is so notorious that the Uttar Pradesh police has created a Special Task Force to finish him and his men. Headed by Vikram (Saif Ali Khan) , the force gets a tip that Vedha’s gang members are hiding in abandoned building in interior. Vikram, his best friend Abbas (Satyadeep Mishra) and others of the STF reach the place with the intention of killing them. As planned, the STF eliminates everyone present, even though one of them was ready to surrender.

This gangster, Muni (Amarjeet Singh), even offers a bribe in exchange for his life. Vikram, however, is an honest cop and he kills him. While checking the crime scene, the cops realize that one guy who was killed had no weapon in his possession and was presumably innocent. Realizing that this can put them into trouble, Vikram tells his colleagues to plant a weapon in his hand and make it seem like he fired at the cops, due to which the police had to also open fire. Vedha wasn’t present at this place and the hunt to find him continues. One day, the cops get a tip about his whereabouts. As they prepare to leave the police station to kill Vedha, they get the shock of their lives. Vedha coolly walks into the police station and surrenders!

Task force members interrogate him one by one but he doesn’t open his mouth. Finally, when Vikram sits opposite him, Vedha asks him to hear his story. He takes him back to 13 years when he used to work for a Kanpur-based criminal, Parshuram (Govind Pandey) and how he won his trust. He also tells him about his brother Shatak (Rohit Saraf), his childhood friend Chanda (Yogita Bihani) and what made him commit his first murder. He also puts Vikram in a dilemma as Vedha’s story changes his perception of good and evil.

Unfortunately for Vikram, before he could hear more stories from Vedha, the latter secures a bail. And the lawyer who gets it done is none other than Priya (Radhika Apte), who is also Vikram’s wife. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Performances

Hrithik Roshan once again proved why he is the perfect combo of looks, style and acting. His dialogue delivery and persona are perfect combo which could kill. After War and Dhoom 2, this will go down as probably his one the best massy performance.

Saif Ali Khan shows his class as once again he displays his craft after Omkara and Tanhaji. His menacing act is clap worthy and he manages to match superstar persona of Hrithik.

Radhika Apte is always good and rest all characters are fair.

Analysis

Pushkar – Gayatri excel as screenplay writer and Hindi adaptation by B A Fida is excellent. Film works brilliantly in back and forth manner and keep one glued to screen. Dialogues by B. A. Fida and Manoj Muntashir are best part of the film. Twists and turns in screenplay are there at regular intervals and every time it fits the bill.

Film is shot well and special mention for background score which lifts the proceedings.

Pushkar–Gayatri’s direction is outstanding . They had directed the original Tamil 2017 film of the same name and in terms of plot, there has been hardly any change. However, in certain places, they have made some changes and it’ll leave even those who have seen the original surprised. They have effortlessly set the story in Lucknow and the characters, all of them grey, are very well written.

Verdict

Film is a perfect masala action drama full of dialoguebaazi. It should work big time in massy centres and single screens should go berserk. Presence of Hrithik & Saif will ensure good traction among urban audience. Lot of whistles and claps in cinema hall guaranteed. Overall bare minimum super hit film is loading if not blockbuster!

Aamir Khan, who last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha, is set to shoot for his next upcoming movie directed by RS Prasanna who had directed Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Rumours state that Anushka Sharma has been requested to play the female lead. 


According to Peeping Moon, the makers have started pre-production on the project and have reportedly lay-out a six-month schedule for the shoot. It will be  produced by Sony Pictures India. The makers are engaged with location scouting, casting and deciding other elements of it.
