Videocon chairman Venugopal Dhoot arrested in ICICI Bank fraud case

Venugopal Dhoot

Videocon owner Venugopal Dhoot has been arrested in connection with the ICICI Bank fraud case. It is being told that he has been arrested by the CBI in Mumbai. Former ICICI Bank CEO and MD Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar, arrested in connection with the Videocon loan case, were produced before a special CBI court on Saturday. The court had sent Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar to CBI remand for 3 days i.e. till Monday.

It was expected that the CBI may soon file a charge sheet in the Videocon loan case. The charge sheet also names Venugopal Dhoot of videocon group along with the Kochhar couple. Kochhar is accused of disbursing loans to Videocon Group promoter Venugopal Dhoot for allegedly investing crores of rupees in NuPower.

The CBI has alleged that ICICI Bank sanctioned a loan facility of Rs 3,250 crore to the Videocon group companies promoted by Venugopal Dhoot in violation of the Banking Regulation Act, RBI guidelines and the bank’s lending policy. During the custody hearing of Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar, special public prosecutor A Limousine, appearing for the CBI, argued that Chanda Kochhar had also committed “criminal breach of trust” under Section 409 of the IPC by approving a loan facility of Rs 300 crore to Videocon International Electronics Limited.

In 2019, the CBI had named Kochhar’s husband Deepak Kochhar as accused in an FIR registered against The Kochhar along with companies like NuPower Renewables, Supreme Energy, Videocon International Electronics Limited and Videocon Industries Ltd.

looking forward to meeting more students soon says Dr.Pratik

Although students are still reporting COVID-19 mental health issues, they are typically not using the resources offered by counselling centres. Even places with limited resources can strive for greater services both now and after the pandemic, as demonstrated by the following suggestions.

Many kids have compared their time with COVID this year to being on a ship that is going down, urgently looking for a lifeboat, and possibly picking one that sinks when it is dropped.

While their own lives are in danger, campus counselling centres and their personnel have acted like the band on the deck of the Titanic, providing solace to others.

Students who are struggling can learn about the resources offered by the counselling centre but choose not to act.

Campus initiatives were vigorous. Last spring, even counselling clinics with little resources swiftly shifted to operating virtually. According to Dr.Pratik, many built support groups, video series, and other asynchronous content for students to use at home to promote mental wellness.

65 percent of students say their mental health is fair to bad.
63 percent of those who believe it is inadequate would assign their college a C or below for its responsiveness to student mental health and wellness services (compared to 43 percent of all students).

47 percent claim that during this period, they could have utilised some (28%) or a lot (19%) more support from their college.
Only 15% of students sought counselling through a college in the previous year.
This ought to serve as a wake-up call. Students are still hurting, even if it appears that we are returning to a regular phase, according to Dr. Pratik.

Along with this, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann today talked about ending the gangster culture of Punjab. Bhagwant Mann said that we have caught many gangsters, and are giving strict punishment to the criminals. Along with this, CM Mann also said that he is being strict against drug smugglers as well. On the ever-increasing crimes in Punjab, the state CM Bhagwant Mann said that law and order is completely under control, because Punjab is adjacent to the border of Pakistan, so many anti-social activities take place from across the border. Weapons also come from there, such a gangster culture did not develop in just a short time. In such a situation, the previous governments are completely responsible for this.

Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha today said at the NDTV conclave ‘Sadda Punjab’ in Chandigarh, that AAP’s spirited campaign made BJP top leaders, including the PM, sweat it out in the streets of Gujrat during recent elections. On the impact of the AAP’s maiden win in the BJP bastion, Raghav Chadha said that after Gujarat polls, BJP’s win made less noise than AAP winning 5 seats and becoming a national party. He defended AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal declaring in written, repeatedly, that his party would form the government in the state, calling it a “campaign strategy”. He said we were confident we would make our presence felt in a big way. I think that happened. 13 percent vote share and 5 seats in the first time in the ruling party’s stronghold is a big achievement,” Mr Chadha said. He also slammed the PM’s “free revdi” comment on AAP’s pre-poll announcements, challenging the BJP to announce that they would stop all special benefits to MPs. “Is that not free revdi?” he asked, accusing the PM of being selective in what they call freebies. Money comes to governments from taxpayers, through both direct and indirect taxes, and the government has to spend on their welfare, he said, defending AAP’s promises of free electricity, education, and healthcare, among other, adding that India is constitutionally a welfare state.

He further said “Our model is that everyone has basic amenities like free electricity, education, and healthcare. That’s how people will be empowered. Empowered people lead to an empowered community, region, state and eventually an empowered country,” he said. Raghav Chadha then claimed the AAP government, without imposing any new taxes, has increased its state budget despite all of these welfare schemes that the BJP scoffs at. “Our budget has increased from around 27,000 crore to over 70,000 crore without even one extra tax,” he argued, taunting the BJP on loans India has amassed from the world in the last eight years.

Reet paper leak in Rajasthan, 40 accused detained

Rajasthan

A case of paper leak has once again come to light in Rajasthan. On the last day of the RPSC Senior Teacher Examination, which has been going on for the last 3 days, the GK paper was out. The big thing is that Udaipur Police has caught 40 candidates from inside the bus in action. All of them have been found in possession of paper, printer and other equipment. It is being told that all these candidates were going to come from Jalore district and take the examination in Udaipur district.

In this case, Udaipur Police says that the District Special Team had information that the GK paper, which was to be held from 9 am to 11 am on the last day of the senior teacher recruitment examination, has been out. It was reported that a bus was coming towards Udaipur from Pindwara Highway, in which many candidates are sitting, who may have papers. Other police officials, including the district special team, were sent to bekaria police station circle and a blockade was imposed on the Pindwara highway. In such a situation, the private bus coming from the front was stopped. As soon as the police got inside the bus, the youths hid the paper in a hurry. After which they were searched and they found paper on which questions were written. After this, all the youths were brought to sukher police station in the city and the paper was matched and the GK paper starting from 9 am came out. After this, the information was given to the RPSC. After which the paper was canceled. Around 40 youths have been detained in connection with the case and are being questioned.

At the same time, politics has intensified again in the state as soon as the paper is leaked. The BJP has started cornering the Congress on the issue. Leader of Opposition and Udaipur city BJP MLA Gulabchand Kataria has said that the paper conducted by the RPSC has been leaked. Even though the RPSC cancelled the exam, this is not the solution. This incident is a blot on the government and we regret that we are people associated with the education sector.

Kataria said that a child who goes to give the paper with so much preparation and listens to the paper that the paper has been out, then the government does not understand his pain and neither the paper is understood by the paper holders. After all, what is the reason that this paper would have gone into the hands of these gangs? Its racket is huge as eight papers have been out in the past and this is the ninth time.

Happiness is an attitude, says Sheo Nath, noted Author

Sheo Nath
Sheo Nath

Critically acclaimed author, Sheo Nath has come up with ‘Minimising Unhappiness’, which is entirely different from his last book, a novel ‘Disclosure: A Rape Victim’s Resolute Revelation’. While Disclosure was on sensitive issue of rape, ‘Minimising Unhappiness’ is a self-help book that helps the readers to tide over their problems in the most practical way.

‘Minimising Unhappiness’ is what everyone is looking for in the fast paced world and tensed life. The author noticed that people are unable to take decision properly and most self-help books give them solutions which are impractical. In fact, some self-help book are so high in motivation, but very low on practicality that the individual sometimes feels depressed. So, he came up with a book which has examples only from his surroundings and ordinary people around. He has succeeded in his efforts for ‘Minimising Unhappiness’ not to become preachy. There is nothing superfluous and all solutions even to complex problems like dealing with unavoidable persons or unavoidable situations are very simple and practical. It also talks about how to develop right attitude and behaviour and how to minimise unhappiness.

His last book, ‘Disclosure’ alsohad earned rave reviews from its readers for its unique style of raising the most sensitive issue of rape and what the victims face afterwards. It is not the usual romantic or revenge saga, but addresses a very important and relevant issue. It is still a taboo subject in the society and people do not like to discuss on this topic with sincerity it deserves. There have been random jokes passed on involving rape. The real pain of the affected person has never been talked about. Also due to societal pressure and nearly hostile environment, the victim seldom speaks about it. The issue has not been addressed properly at the level of community and society. Even if a novel has talked about the issue, it is on the individual level of feeling. Disclosure has dealt with status of women across the globe.

The author admits that while writing ‘Disclosure’, the topic was so sensitive that it was even tough to start. But having been deeply affected by the spate of rape incidents in the country, he was determined to write on it. He found dearth of standard reading materials. Women were reluctant to talk on this issue. While doing the research online, he had to deal with lot of unwanted and irrelevant materials, but this made him very sure that this is a pandemic affecting every nook and corner of the world. It took more than 4-5 years of research with the facts, figures and personal experiences of the victims to come out with the product in your hand. The research drained him emotionally, as per his own admission. What resulted is a classic novel wherein the protagonist, a rape victim has not been named at all in the story, making the writing tough and unique at the same time. It has been attempted to make the story free of any tag of region, religion, caste or colour. Again, the canvas of the novel has been the whole world, which has been handled quite artistically and emphatically.

‘Tukron me prem-kahani’ has 14 stories, each on a central female character. However, the stories are of human relationship and male characters form equally important part of the story. The stories’ subject ranges from infatuation to spirituality in love. The fear of society, the platonic love, love in disguise, meeting with old love in twilight years of life, resurfacing of love during college reunion etc make these stories lively. His forthcoming book ‘Aasman ka guroor’ is collection of poems that touches patriotism, women issues, environment issues, human behaviour, etc.

Right now, he is basking in the success of ‘Disclosure’ and ‘Minimising Unhappiness’ and rightly deserves it.
