Riya Vinherkar the finalist in the MSSA under 16 girls badminton inter school summit clash from Mumbai holds much promise with her game.
Unseeded Riya of Greater Mumbai produced an impressive performance against Myra Oak of Rustomjee Cambridge International School, Dahisar sealing the deal 21-19, 21-9 in her favour. She has been an avid badminton player since she started playing u10 tournaments.
She joined badminton as a sport just for fitness at the age of 7. Within a short span of time she played a under 10 tournament and reached the Finals. That’s the time she started liking the sport and decided to pursue a career in badminton. She has been playing at States and National level since then and is inspired by the Badminton Legend Carolina Marin. She looks up to her as an inspiration for her aggressive game.
The 14 year old Bombay Scottish student is in the top 30 of the National under 15 rankings and aims to clinch the State and National Championships soon. She credits her family and the school immensely for all the support they have given to make her life easier and focus on her aim. Her father works for a Bank and her mother is a housewife. She left her Banking and Finance career to support Riya in aspiring her dream. Managing studies and training sessions and participating in the tournaments has never been easy but the young shuttler manages it well.
