Actually, sunrise will occur once again on the South Pole of the Moon today.  Due to sunrise, ISRO will once again try to ‘wake up’ Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander and Pragyan rover.  ISRO scientists have also completed their preparations in view of the sunrise.  An attempt will be made to activate the lander and rover once again on Friday with the sunrise over the Moon’s Shiv Shakti Point.

Scientists will get help in activating communication circuits

ISRO scientists expect an important event from this process.  Vikram and Pragyan’s awakening.  With sunrise, the temperature on the Moon will rise above minus 10 degrees Celsius, which will help scientists activate communication circuits.  This process is known as the “wake-up circuit”.

When we sleep on earth, Vikram-Pragyan will wake up on the moon

Responding to the discussion on lunar mission in the Lok Sabha during the special session of Parliament, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that every effort is being made to awaken Vikram and Pragyan.  He said, “When we sleep on Earth tonight, Vikram and Pragyan will probably wake up on the Moon.”

Everyone is waiting for the temperature to rise on the moon – Minister

On the possibility of Vikram Lander waking up, Jitendra Singh said that everyone associated with the mission is waiting for the temperature to rise on the Moon.  “As soon as the temperature goes above minus 10 degrees, a wake-up call will go and Vikram and Pragyan will wake up from their sleep,” he said.

Vikram Lander landed near the south pole of the Moon on August 23 and successfully completed the soft landing on the lunar surface.

Canada rejects India’s travel advisory amid escalating diplomatic row; calls for calm

Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller sought to reassure Indian nationals on Wednesday that it is safe to travel to the country amid escalating tensions between both nations.

TORONTO: The Canadian government has rejected a travel advisory issued by India about security risks in Canada, saying it is one of the safest countries in the world, and called for calm amid the escalating diplomatic row between the two nations over the killing of a Khalistani separatist leader in this country.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of “potential” involvement of Indian government agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June unleashed a diplomatic row with India rejecting the charges as “absurd” and “motivated” and kicking out a senior Canadian diplomat in a tit-for-tat move to Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official.

India on Wednesday advised all its citizens living in Canada and those contemplating traveling there to exercise “utmost caution” in view of growing anti-India activities and “politically-condoned” hate crimes in the North American country, as the diplomatic row over the killing of a Khalistani separatist leader threatened to snowball into a major confrontation.

In a strongly-worded advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi referred to “threats” targeting Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community that oppose the “anti-India agenda”, and asked Indian nationals to avoid traveling to regions and potential venues in Canada which have seen such incidents.

Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller sought to reassure Indian nationals on Wednesday that it is safe to travel to the country even as a leader of the Sikh separatist movement banned in India has announced plans for rallies in Canadian cities on Monday that seek the closing of New Delhi’s diplomatic missions here, The Globe and Mail newspaper reported.

“Canada by any standard is one of the safest if not the safest countries in the world that is governed by the rule of law. So, I think people should read that statement for what it is,” Miller said.

“Given what the Prime Minister has said quite clearly to Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi, the allegations are very serious, and these are discussions that have to continue with India,” he said.

Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Sean Fraser said that he would not comment on the specifics of the probe into Nijjar’s death because he does not want to compromise any investigations. He said Canadians should have faith in the security services’ ability to investigate the death. “It’s important that if we believe in justice…we believe in the process that gets us there,” the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation quoted Fraser as saying.

“I am sure there are good reasons not to share details that may ground such extraordinary allegations because protecting the process of getting to a just result is extremely important,” Fraser said.

“This is obviously a tragedy that played out. The allegations are extremely serious. And we’re going to treat them seriously. We’re always concerned about the safety and well-being of Canadians. There are no specific threats that I’m aware of currently that are tied to foreign officials. But from a public safety point of view, we want to always protect the safety and well-being of Canadians whether their family has been here for generations or whether they arrived last month,” he added.

The MEA on Tuesday trashed Trudeau’s comments asserting that “such unsubstantiated allegations seek to shift the focus from Khalistani terrorists and extremists, who have been provided shelter in Canada and continue to threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Women’s quota bill: Sonia recalls Rajiv, says ‘poignant moment of life’

Sonia Gandhi

It was an emotional moment for her as her husband Rajiv Gandhi was the first to introduce a bill on women’s reservation in panchayats.

Making a strong pitch for reservation for OBC women and a nationwide caste census, Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi extended her party’s support to the women’s reservation bill passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

In her maiden speech (Sonia Gandhi) at the new Parliament, the former Congress president demanded that the quota be implemented immediately. Leading the Congress’ charge, Gandhi said any delay in implementing the quota bill would be a “gross injustice” to Indian women.

According to the Bill, the quota will only be implemented after the completion of the census and delimitation exercise. “Rajiv Gandhi’s dream is only half fulfilled. It will be fulfilled with the passage of this bill. The Congress supports this bill,” she said.

“We will be happy with the passage of this bill, but we have a concern. I want to ask a question. For the last 13 years, Indian women have been waiting for their political responsibilities, and now they are being asked to wait for a few more years — two years, four years, six years, eight years,” she said.

“Is such behavior with Indian women appropriate? It is the demand of the Congress that the bill be immediately implemented… but, along with that, provision should be made for the reservation of SC, ST, OBC women after conducting a caste census,” she said.

It was an emotional moment for her as her husband Rajiv Gandhi was the first to introduce a bill on women’s reservation in panchayats. “This is a very poignant moment in my life. It was my life partner Rajiv Gandhi ji who for the first time had brought the constitutional amendment for the participation of women in local bodies, but it was defeated in the Rajya Sabha by seven votes. Later, the Congress government under the leadership of Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao got it passed,” Gandhi said.

“From smoke-filled kitchens to flood-lit stadiums, the Indian woman’s journey has been a long one. But she has reached her destination,” she added. Recalling the contribution of the likes of Sarojini Naidu, Sucheta Kripalani, Aruna Asaf Ali, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur and millions of other women, she said they have always ensured that the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru Sardar Patel, Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Maulana Azad are realized.
