Bill Gates  could launch a climate health initiative today at the  COP28  summit

The health-themed day will  attract many celebrities,  including Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates, who is expected to join the  UAE  in launching a climate health initiative.

Dubai: After two  straight  days of  speeches  from  world leaders, the COP28 climate summit  on Sunday turned  its attention  to the reality of climate change  causing  more  diseases. This  will be the first time  the annual  United Nations  talks  have put  public health on the agenda.

As  malnutrition, malaria,  diarrhea  and heat stress  are  on the rise  –  and  threaten  to  strain already struggling  health services  –  countries and businesses  are  looking to find ways to  more  to protect people as temperatures continue to  rise  for decades.

The health-themed day will  attract many celebrities,  including Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates, who is expected to join the  UAE  in launching a climate health initiative.  Former  US  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will also visit the  vast  COP28  complex,  where more than 70,000 people from  around  the world have gathered for the two-week conference.

Mrs.  Clinton  is scheduled  to  attend  an event on women and climate change.

COP28 will also  feature  former  US  Vice President Al Gore, who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with the  United Nations  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for  his efforts  to  advance innovation.  public  awareness  about global warming.

On Saturday, current  US  Vice President Kamala Harris sought to promote Washington’s global  leadership on climate,  saying her country had once again become “a global leader in  addressing climate change.” solving  the climate  crisis”.

India  will  outperform other  major  economies in FY24

The GDP  figures released  on  Thursday  surprised all  economic experts  who  predicted 6.8%  growth this  quarter.

India’s  gross domestic product (GDP) growth in  Q2FY24 is  expected to be good  –  and this  has been  indicated by Reserve Bank of  India  (RBI)  Governor  Shaktikanta Das  for  about a  month.

Speaking at a media event on October 31, he  noted  that the  country’s second-quarter  growth  rate  would surprise everyone  with its increase,  and he was right. The GDP  figures released  on  Thursday  surprised all  economic experts  who  predicted 6.8%  growth this  quarter. However, the  actual  figure  of  7.6% is contrary to  all  predictions. Signs  of this kind of growth  were  quite evident when the government  announced  monthly  Goods and Services Tax (GST)  collection figures  on November 1, 2023.  Monthly  GST  collections reflect  actual business  activity The economy increased sharply  in October this  year.  year  reached  ₹1.72 lakh crore, the second highest monthly collection since the  start of the  new indirect tax regime  in July 2017.  Besides,  the  growth rate  of  Core  Industrial Production  index ( IIP)  averaged 9.7% in the second quarter of  fiscal 2024,  and  PMIs –  both manufacturing and services  –  also showed high  levels, averaging  57.9 and  61.1  respectively.

Thus,  India continues its  journey  to become  the fastest growing major economy  in  the world. And this growth momentum  continues.  This was reflected in a recent report.

S&P Global  Ratings’  credit analysis report  –  “China  slows,  India  grows”  –  indicated  earlier this week  that  the  growth  driver for Asia-Pacific is  expected to shift  away  from China to South  Asia  and Southeast Asia, with India  in a prime position  to see its GDP  grow at  7% by 2026. And  that’s obvious.

India’s  growth story is also  important  because it  takes place  against a  challenging  global  backdrop.  Union  Finance Minister  Nirmala Sitharaman  said  earlier this week  that global headwinds are  negatively  affecting  the  Indian  economy,  but domestic  strength is  supporting  India’s strong  growth.  She said India’s  large  domestic market,  the  purchasing power of its middle  class  and stable policies continue to drive  economic growth, despite global headwinds and  local challenges. politics.  HT  reported  this  on Tuesday.

Commenting on the latest GDP  figures,  Chief  Economic Advisor  V Anantha Nageswaran on Thursday said  the growth prospects of the Indian economy  look bright, although  external factors  pose  downside  risks .  He  also praised  the  government’s  policies to  sustain  high  growth, including heavy  capital expenditure, expansion of public digital platforms,  Prime Minister  GatiShakti, National Logistics  Policy  and  programs production incentives  (PLI)  involved.

Indeed,  the 7.6% GDP growth in  the  second quarter coupled with the remarkably high  growth rate  of 7.8%  in the first quarter  constitutes  a major achievement.  This turned  out to be a bigger  achievement,  mainly because  second-quarter  growth  benefited from a significant  contribution  from India’s  strong manufacturing sector.

With appropriate  policies and  adjusted  incentives, the government has achieved  7.7% GDP growth in the first half of 2023-24.  Given its  lead over other major economies, India is likely to outperform other  major  economies in  FY24 overall.

Counting of votes  started  in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan

The four states  are sending  82 representatives to the Lok Sabha and the election results are expected to impact seat-sharing negotiations  in  the  opposition  Indian National  Alliance for  Inclusive  Development.

The counting  of about  119 million votes  for 639  Assembly  seats  in  Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana  and Rajasthan began on Sunday morning after  a poll  described as a virtual semi-final for the 2024 national  election was announced. ends  November 30.  first and the process  is filmed with a high level of  security.

The four states  are sending  82 representatives to the Lok Sabha and the election results are expected to impact seat-sharing negotiations  in  the  opposition’s Alliance for Inclusive  National  Development. Polls  in three  states – Rajasthan,  Madhya  Pradesh  and  Chhattisgarh – saw  bipolar  competition  between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress.

The BJP has ruled Madhya Pradesh, the largest of the  voting states,  for 18 of the  past  20 years. It was  a  showdown  with the Congress in the  state,  as the  latter  hoped to  use the anti-mandate opportunity  to return to power.  The  majority of  opinion  polls  predict a tight fight  between the BJP and the Congress. Two  give an  edge to the Congress and one to the BJP. IndiaToday-AxisMyIndia and  Today’s  Chanakya-News 24  polls have  predicted a  BJP win.

The BJP  has sent  ministers and  MPs besides focusing  on its  social activities.  The Congress  focused  on  the anti-mission  and corruption  charges  against Chouhan.

Rajasthan usually  removes a sitting president  every five years. Congress  Chief Minister  Ashok Gehlot  is  expected to  face  a tough  fight over  welfare  schemes  and cash  transfers. Most opinion  polls  predict  the BJP  will return  to power.

But IndiaToday-AxisMyIndia and  Today’s  Chanakya-News 24 both predicted that  the  Congress was  slightly  ahead.  The contest  appears  more  balanced  in Chhattisgarh, where the Congress  won  the polls in 2018. Five exit polls predicted a close fight with the Congress ahead. Three others  predicted  that  Chief Minister  Bhupesh Baghel  could  comfortably  sit  for a second  consecutive  term. The  National Assembly has lobbied for rice purchasing  and welfare  programs.

All opinion polls predict  that the Congress, which was in power at the  Center  when Telangana was  formed  in 2014,  will  replace the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the only southern state that  goes  to  polls in this round. BRS has ruled the state since its inception. Four exit polls  indicate that  Congress  will win  a simple majority of its own. Others  predict  it  will  likely  become  the  largest  party.

The Congress  suffered a defeat  in the 2018 polls and ended up  with about  20 percentage points  of votes  in  favor of  the BRS.  He  ran the 2023 campaign under  state unit chief Revanth  Reddy,  who targeted  BRS  for  corruption and anti-incumbency. Chief  Minister  K Chandrasekhar Rao  focuses  on his welfare  schemes  and schemes.

Karnataka  Deputy Chief Minister  DK Shivakumar flew to Hyderabad on  Saturday,  apparently  in solidarity with  the  Congress.  He alleged that  BRS was  trying  to  contact  its  lawmakers.

IMF  Managing  Director KV Subramanian  forecasts  7% growth  in  FY24, says India  ‘is charting its  own path’

KV Subramanian,  managing director  of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and  former chief economic advisor  to the  Indian government,  praised the country’s economic performance and expressed optimism for the  economy.

Responding  to former RBI  governor

Raghuram Rajan’s comments on India’s GDP growth, KV Subramanian,  managing director  of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and  former chief economic advisor  to the  Indian government,  expressed  his optimistic.

Speaking to  ANI,  he highlighted the  strong  growth of the Indian economy,  with  growth  of 7.2%  last year and  7.7%  in the first half of  this year. Subramanian expects 7% growth in  the current  financial year.

“The  fact that the economy  grew 7.2%  last year and  7.7%  in the first half of this year  speaks for  itself. And if I  predict  growth  of 7.7%  in the first  half,  even with  an  average  growth of 6.3%  in the second  half. half,  India will grow at  7% in  this particular  fiscal year,”  he said.

“I  think it’s important to  remember  that during the  pandemic, a lot of  commentators  were very negative. There  have been  people and if you  check  their  statements in the media,  you will  see  that there  are  people who  have  said  there are millions of  people.  Indians  are  dying in  the streets. There are  those  who  say  that  GDP will decline by  more than 20% this  financial  year.  Many people  “Many people have  made such statements and I  don’t  think  this  has  happened.” right,”  he  added,  referring to cautious  comments  during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In  general, I think because of the  suigeneris  policy  implemented by India,  India  has  had the  confidence  and  courage  to chart its own  course instead of copying and pasting  what  has already been  done, for  example. such as  during the global financial  crisis.” ,  where we  copy and paste  what  advanced economies  are doing…”  he added.

GST revenue  has  a positive trend

Subramanian also commented on  GST revenue  collections by  November 2023,  saying  that  collection trends indicate  the  possibility  of  ₹ 2  lakh crore per month in 1.5-2 years. He attributed the success  in  GST collection to effective policy implementation, reflecting India’s commitment to sound fiscal management.

“I  think from  the  indications  so far, in about  1.5 to 2  years, we can expect to touch  2  lakh  rupees in a month. I think  good  GST collection  is part of the overall phenomenon  about the  good policy that has been  implemented…So,  overall, I think the good  results  on the GST side  are  evidence of good  tax policy…”,  he  stated.

 Satisfaction with India’s GDP growth

Expressing  satisfaction over  India’s GDP trajectory, Subramanian  recorded  a  growth  of 7.6%  in the second quarter, following previous growth  of  7.2%  in FY23 and  7.8%  in  first quarter of the  current  fiscal year. He also hailed the  average growth  rate of 7.7%  in the first half  of the year  as exceptional  in a  challenging global economic  environment, and praised  India’s economic performance as remarkable  in  the  face of the current recession.

 International headwinds.

Subramanian  praised the  resilience and  dynamism of the Indian economy,  highlighting  its remarkable  growth despite the complexities of the global economy. He  emphasized  India’s ability to chart its own  course, comparing  it  to  the approach taken during the global financial crisis, where India implemented  unconventional  policies  instead of imitating imitate  advanced economies.

 What did Rajan say?

Former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan  said  last month  that  the Indian  economy is showing signs of steady  growth,  but needs to  grow  at a  rate above 8%  to create enough jobs for the  most populous  country. world.  “We should  reach 8-8.5%, taking into account people’s  needs  and  employment needs.  Economic growth  of 6 to 6.5%  is strong compared  to  other countries, but  compared  to our  job needs,  I think  it is  still  a bit  slow because we have a lot of young people who need  jobs.”  he noted.

Rajan said India also needs to train its workforce to compete with other efficient manufacturing  countries,  including China and Vietnam. “India is trying to move up the value  chain  and  there are  signs  that  this is  happening. But there is a long  way  to  go before we  actually  produce complete mobile  phones in  India,”  he added, referring to  iPhone production  in the country.
