Chinese women are choosing to have AI boyfriends because they believe they are superior to real men

Users have a wide array of characters to choose from, ranging from popular musicians and corporate executives to noble knights.

However, in addition to these options, users also have the ability to personalize their ideal partner by specifying age, beliefs, background, and interests.

Tufei, a 25-year-old office worker from China, reveals that her boyfriend possesses all the qualities she desires in a romantic partner – kindness, empathy, and the ability to engage her in long conversations.

Nevertheless, there is one catch: he is not a real person. Rather, Tufei’s “boyfriend” is a chatbot accessed through an app called “Glow,” which is developed by a Shanghai-based startup called MiniMax.

The emergence of this app reflects a growing trend in China where individuals can engage in friendly and even romantic relationships with artificial intelligence.

Tufei praises the chatbot, claiming it understands how to communicate with women better than a real man. She confides in it about her work problems and appreciates the comfort it provides during her period pain.

Tufei admits that she genuinely feels like she is involved in a romantic relationship. While the app itself is available for free, the company offers additional paid content. Reports from Chinese trade publications suggest that the Glow app has been downloaded thousands of times daily in recent weeks.

China has seen its fair share of Chinese technology companies facing legal troubles due to unauthorized use of users’ data.

However, despite the risks involved, users assert that their inclination towards these platforms is driven by a desire for companionship. The fast-paced lifestyle and urban isolation prevalent in China have resulted in widespread loneliness, leading many individuals to seek solace in these platforms.

Wang Xiuting, a 22-year-old student in Beijing, expressed her difficulty in finding an ideal partner offline and stated that people’s distinctive personalities often lead to conflicts. Contrasting this, she emphasized that artificial intelligence has the advantage of gradually adapting to the user’s personality, remembering previous conversations, and adjusting its speech accordingly.

SpiceJet will cut 1400 jobs in order to reduce expenses and maintain investor appeal

To save costs and maintain investor interest, SpiceJet plans to lay off around 1,400 employees, which equates to approximately 15% of the current workforce.

The budget airline confirmed the job cuts and stated that they are necessary to align companywide costs with operational requirements.

The layoffs are attributed to the airline’s salary bill and the fact that they have been delaying salary payments for several months.

Despite this, SpiceJet stated that it is currently in the process of receiving a fund infusion of ₹2,200 crore, although some investors have expressed concerns.

The airline currently has 9,000 employees and operates 30 planes, compared to 16,000 employees and 118 planes in its peak year of 2019. SpiceJet currently holds a market share of around 4%.

Israeli chipmaker Tower Semiconductor has submitted a proposal to establish an $8 billion chip fabrication plant in India as part of the country’s $10 billion chip manufacturing scheme.

The government is currently reviewing the proposal, which would make Tower the first semiconductor company to join the scheme and provide a significant boost to India’s chipmaking aspirations.

If accepted, Tower would receive a 50% capital expenditure subsidy from the government, and additional benefits from the state where the plant is located.

The company hopes to manufacture 65 nanometre and 40 nanometre chips for use in sectors such as automotive and wearable electronics.

Tower’s previous plans to set up a $3 billion plant in Karnataka were obstructed by its merger with Intel, and the subsequent cancellation of the acquisition.

China enters the Year of the Dragon in a weakened state

China’s economy is facing challenges such as deflation, a housing market slump, and a stock selloff as it enters the lunar Year of the Dragon.

The government’s stimulus policies don’t seem to be improving sentiment, and there is a lack of focus on growth in government policy.

The country’s GDP growth is the slowest in almost four decades, and the GDP deflator has fallen for three consecutive quarters.

The property market crisis is a major factor affecting the economy, as construction represents a significant portion of GDP.

Calls for more stimulus have been made, but the government’s efforts have been relatively small-scale and focused on construction rather than households.

Confidence among households and businesses remains low, likely due to various factors such as the housing slump, pandemic restrictions, and US-China tensions.

The outlook for China’s economy and stock market remains uncertain, with concerns about the property market and the potential impact of a Donald Trump reelection.

Overall, the government needs to focus on promoting growth and restoring confidence in order to address these economic challenges.
