The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), led by Ghulam Nabi Azad, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headed by Arvind Kejriwal, have released their initial list of candidates for 13 seats in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

These elections are the first to take place since the revocation of Article 370 and will occur over three phases: on September 18 and 25, and October 1, with the results set to be revealed on October 4.

The DPAP’s candidate list includes 13 individuals, among them former J&K minister Abdul Majeed Wani from the Doda East constituency, ex-MLA Mohammad Amin Bhat from Devsar, ex-J&K advocate general Mohammad Aslam Goni from Bhaderwah, DDC member Saleem Parray from Dooru, and Muneer Ahmed Mir from Lolab.

Other candidates for DPAP are DDC member Bilal Ahmed Deva from Anantnag West, Ghulam Nabi Wani (Nellora) from Rajpora, Mir Altaf Hussain from Anantnag, and Qaiser Sultan Ganai (Jin) from Ganderbal.

Additionally, Ghulam Nabi Bhat will stand for election from Eidgah, Amir Ahmed Bhat from Khanyar, Nisar Ahmed Lone from Gurez, and Peer Bilal Ahmed from Hazratbal.

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has authorised a potential foreign military sale of anti-submarine warfare Sonobuoys and related gear to India, estimated at USD 52.8 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency has submitted the necessary certification and informed Congress of this potential sale, as stated in a release from the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

The Defence Security Cooperation Agency operates within the US Department of Defense.

According to the agency, “The Government of India has requested to acquire AN/SSQ-53G High Altitude Anti-Submarine Warfare (HAASW) sonobuoys; AN/SSQ-62F HAASW sonobuoys; AN/SSQ-36 sonobuoys; along with technical documentation and support from the US Government and contractors. The total estimated cost is USD 52.8 million.”

This proposed sale aims to support US foreign policy and national security goals by reinforcing the strategic partnership between the United States and India, thereby enhancing the security of a key defence ally that plays a vital role in fostering political stability, peace, and economic development in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia.

Furthermore, the sale is expected to enhance India’s capacity to tackle both present and future threats through improved anti-submarine warfare operations from its MH-60R helicopters, and the integration of this equipment into its armed forces should pose no challenges.

However, Zomato has now officially discontinued this service, which aimed to deliver food from distant cities, such as dhoklas from Gujarat to customers in Delhi. Despite attempts to improve profitability, including raising the minimum order value to Rs. 5,000, the service could not achieve sustainability due to a poor “product-market fit.”

In a post on X, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal stated, “Update on Zomato Legends—after two years of trying, we have decided to shut down the service with immediate effect due to the lack of product-market fit.” 

Commenters on Goyal’s post expressed that the marketing for Zomato Legends was inadequate, leaving the company with no choice but to take such measures. One comment read, “I’m hearing about Zomato Legends for the first time… lol. It shows how poor the marketing and service were.” Another noted, “I guess it wasn’t marketed well. Not many people know about Zomato Legends.” A user inquired about the challenges of scaling the service.

Additionally, Vibhor Varshney, a SEBI Registered Research Analyst, pointed out several reasons for the service’s failure, including poor marketing, the unattractiveness of cold food items like hours-old chole bhature, and high costs.

Zomato also shut down its ‘Zomato Xtreme’ hyperlocal goods delivery service in July 2024 due to lackluster demand. Launched a year earlier to compete with delivery companies like Shadowfax, Porter, and Loadshare for intracity deliveries in around 750-800 Indian cities, this service also struggled to find its footing in the competitive market.
