A 100-meter-long ‘Make In India’ bridge has been inaugurated for the bullet train project

A 1464 MT steel bridge, measuring 14.6 m in height and 14.3 m in width, has been constructed at a workshop in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, and transported to the installation site via trailers. This bridge is the fourth of 28 planned for the bullet Train corridor.

In another development for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, a new 100 m steel bridge was inaugurated on August 25 near Silvassa, in Dadra & Nagar Haveli. 

To facilitate the launching, an 84-meter-long temporary launching nose, weighing 600 MT, was attached to the main bridge to eliminate the need for any intermediate supports, and additional temporary supports were installed to enhance stability during the launch.

A total of 27,500 high-strength friction grip (HSFG) bolts were used to connect the components of the launching nose, while approximately 55,250 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts, complete with C5 system painting and elastomeric bearings, were employed for the main bridge.

At a height of 14.5 m from the ground, the steel bridge and its launching nose were assembled on temporary trestles, then moved into place using an automatic system consisting of two semi-automatic jacks, each with a capacity of 250 tons, operated with mac-alloy bars.

The Bullet Train project is being executed with meticulous attention to safety and engineering quality, drawing on Japanese expertise while increasingly utilizing Indian technical and material resources in alignment with the “Make in India” initiative.

This bridge marks the completion of the fourth of 28 planned steel bridges for the corridor, which includes 24 river bridges in total—20 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra. Out of the 20 bridges in Gujarat, 10 have already been completed.

The project was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then-Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Ahmedabad on September 14, 2017.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) was established on February 12, 2016, under the Companies Act of 2013, with the goal of financing, constructing, maintaining, and managing India’s High-Speed Rail Corridor.

This company operates as a ‘Special Purpose Vehicle’ in a joint venture, with equity investments from the Central Government through the Ministry of Railways and the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Defrauded Investors Urge Authorities to Act Against NSEL Brokers Thousands of Investors Still Waiting for Justice Years After NSEL Crisis

Thousands of investors who lost their hard-earned money due to the fallout of the National Spot Exchange Limited (NSEL) crisis are still waiting for justice and the return of their funds. Their prolonged wait is eroding trust in the system. The crisis, which began over a decade ago, involved brokers misleading investors with false promises of safe and assured returns, leaving them in financial turmoil. Despite clear court directives and the stringent provisions of the MPID Act, many brokers have yet to face the necessary legal action, and justice continues to be delayed.

The National Spot Exchange Limited (NSEL) case stems from a payment default that occurred in 2013. The crisis was triggered when the Forward Markets Commission (FMC), the commodities market regulator, directed NSEL to halt the launch of new contracts, leading to the abrupt closure of the Exchange in July 2013. This event marked the beginning of a major financial crisis, leaving thousands of investors facing significant losses and sparking ongoing legal battles to recover the funds.

The NSEL provided a platform for buyers and sellers to trade in commodities, involving clients, traders, and investors registered through their respective brokers. These brokers, in turn, were registered on the NSEL exchange. However, investigations have revealed that brokers exploited this system, engaging in fraudulent activities that defrauded thousands of investors.

The investigation uncovered several key findings that highlight the fraudulent activities of the brokers involved in the NSEL crisis. Brokers took Power of Attorney from their clients and executed trades on the NSEL on their behalf. They misrepresented NSEL contracts as fixed return products, luring traders into investments with promises of risk-free returns. Furthermore, brokers funded their clients beyond their repayment capacity and conducted trades without proper authority, sometimes using clients’ names and PAN details for benami transactions. To conceal these illicit activities, brokers also engaged in rampant client code modifications.

Courts have ruled that brokers are to be considered as financial institutions under the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) Act. The Court also upheld the attachment of assets, including bank accounts and properties, under this Act. This decision reinforces the legal framework aimed at protecting investors’ interests and recovering their lost funds, providing renewed hope for justice to the thousands of affected investors. However, authorities have yet to take the necessary actions to implement this ruling effectively.

In March 2015, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police arrested directors of three major brokerage firms. By December 2018, these brokers and their directors were charge-sheeted under various charges, including being declared Financial Establishments under the MPID Act. In December 2022, the EOW filed a final charge sheet against 16 additional brokers and their directors.

Despite these actions, significant delays in attaching the brokers’ assets have frustrated investors. The MPID Act allows for the attachment of properties of entities declared as Financial Establishments to protect depositors’ interests. However, the assets of brokers who accepted deposits from investors and failed to repay them remain largely unattached.

In May 2023, the MPID Court ordered the attachment of properties belonging to one prominent broker. However, authorities have only attached a fraction of the required assets. The High Court upheld the MPID Court’s directive, emphasizing that inaction should not hinder the attachment process.

Investors, frustrated by the lack of progress, have taken legal action to expedite the attachment of assets. An application filed by an investor led to a court hearing where the Competent Authority confirmed that brokers had induced investors with false promises of guaranteed returns. The court ordered the attachment of properties, but significant progress is still lacking.

Public Outcry and Social Media Campaign:

The ongoing delays and perceived favoritism towards certain brokers have sparked a public outcry. A social media campaign under the hashtag #ActAgainstNSELBrokers has gained momentum, demanding swift justice and accountability. Prominent figures and social media influencers have joined the call for justice, amplifying the voices of affected investors.

Thousands of investors are still waiting for justice years after the NSEL crisis. They were promised safe returns by their brokers but are left empty-handed.  

The NSEL crisis has left a lasting impact on investor confidence and financial stability. As the call for justice grows louder, it is imperative for the concerned authorities to act promptly. Investors are demanding that the government attach the assets of all brokers involved, ensure accountability, and restore public faith in the financial system.

Apple is planning a significant boost in iPhone manufacturing for the coming year, particularly targeting its Pro and Pro Max models. Recent reports from GSM Arena indicate that the company intends to produce around 90.1 million iPhones in 2024, which is a slight increase from last year’s goal of 86.2 million units.

 This year’s production strategy shows a clear shift towards focusing on high-end models. The iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to represent a large share of this total, with plans for 33.2 million units, making up 37 percent of overall production. This shows a substantial rise from the 24.2 million iPhone 15 Pro Max units produced last year, as per GSM Arena. 

Additionally, iPhone 16 Pro production is set to increase to 26.6 million units, accounting for 30 percent of the overall iPhone 16 output, up from 21.8 million units of the previous model. In contrast, the production of non-Pro versions will see more modest increases. 

The standard iPhone 16 is expected to rise to 24.5 million units, from 21.8 million last year, while the iPhone 16 Plus will decline with only 5.8 million units planned. This shift towards Pro and Pro Max models highlights a growing consumer preference for premium smartphones, which generally yield higher profit margins for Apple.

 As the iPhone 16 series is anticipated to launch on September 10, 2024, these production changes reflect Apple’s strategic adjustment to shifting market demands and consumer preferences.

The Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), led by Ghulam Nabi Azad, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headed by Arvind Kejriwal, have released their initial list of candidates for 13 seats in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.

These elections are the first to take place since the revocation of Article 370 and will occur over three phases: on September 18 and 25, and October 1, with the results set to be revealed on October 4.

The DPAP’s candidate list includes 13 individuals, among them former J&K minister Abdul Majeed Wani from the Doda East constituency, ex-MLA Mohammad Amin Bhat from Devsar, ex-J&K advocate general Mohammad Aslam Goni from Bhaderwah, DDC member Saleem Parray from Dooru, and Muneer Ahmed Mir from Lolab.

Other candidates for DPAP are DDC member Bilal Ahmed Deva from Anantnag West, Ghulam Nabi Wani (Nellora) from Rajpora, Mir Altaf Hussain from Anantnag, and Qaiser Sultan Ganai (Jin) from Ganderbal.
