Vadhvan Port is set to become the largest deep-water port in India, backed by an investment of Rs 76,220 crore.
New Delhi:
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the construction of the Vadhvan Port, which is anticipated to enhance India’s trade significantly due to its strategic position and capacity. Located in Palghar, Maharashtra, Vadhvan Port is set to become India’s largest deep-water port with an investment of Rs 76,220 crore.
The port is expected to improve India’s connectivity with Central Asia and Russia while facilitating trade through the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. It is projected to alleviate some of the strain on Jawaharlal Nehru Port, currently the largest container port in India.
According to government estimates, the port will be transformative for Maharashtra’s economy, contributing over one percent to the state’s GDP and fostering regional development. It will also link to the Dedicated Freight Corridors associated with the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, ensuring quicker and more efficient cargo transportation.
The government anticipates the project to create around 1.2 million direct jobs and over 10 million indirect jobs. From its inception, the port has been designed as a green port, promoting economic growth while prioritizing environmental sustainability in line with India’s blue economy. It is expected to drive economic and social advancements for coastal communities and the broader Maharashtra region.
Prime Minister Modi referred to the Vadhvan Port project as a “very special project,” emphasizing its role in India’s development and asserting that it will solidify Maharashtra as a “powerhouse of progress.”
Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, expressed his outrage towards Brazil’s “pseudo-judge,” referring to Moraes as an “evil dictator pretending to be a judge” and claiming he is “attempting to undermine democracy in Brazil.”
For months, Moraes and Musk have been engaged in a high-profile conflict, with Moraes leading efforts against misinformation in Brazil. Musk has claimed to be a “free speech absolutist,” but since acquiring the platform previously known as Twitter in 2022, he has faced criticism for allegedly allowing right-wing conspiracy theories to proliferate.
Moraes has demanded the “immediate, complete and comprehensive suspension of the operation of” X in Brazil, instructing the national communications agency to implement this order within 24 hours. He has also urged Google, Apple, and internet service providers to create technological barriers to prevent access to the X application and website. Additionally, he issued a warning of a 50,000 reais ($8,900) fine for individuals using “technological subterfuges” like VPNs to bypass the blockage. The platform boasts over 22 million users in Brazil.
Earlier this month, Musk halted X’s operations in Brazil, asserting that Moraes had intimidated the company’s former legal representative with threats of arrest to enforce “censorship orders.” On Wednesday, Moraes instructed Musk to appoint a new representative within 24 hours or risk suspension. Following the deadline, X publicly expressed its expectation that Moraes would shut down the platform for refusing to comply with his “illegal orders” to censor political rivals.
The dispute escalated when Moraes ordered the suspension of multiple X accounts associated with supporters of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro, who attempted to undermine the 2022 election results after his loss. Brazilian authorities are currently investigating whether Bolsonaro coordinated a coup to hinder current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s inauguration in January 2023. Those affected by Moraes’s actions include controversial figures like former congressman Daniel Silveira, sentenced to nine years in prison in 2022 for leading a movement against the Supreme Court.
In April, Moraes initiated an inquiry into Musk, accusing him of reinstating some of the banned accounts. Starlink claimed that the order was based on an unfounded premise that it should be held liable for the unconstitutional fines imposed on X and stated its intention to resolve the issue through legal channels. Musk is also facing a separate investigation regarding an alleged scheme that misused public funds for disinformation campaigns supporting Bolsonaro and his affiliates.
Lula commented on the situation during a local radio interview, stating, “Any citizen from anywhere in the world who has investments in Brazil is subject to the Brazilian Constitution and laws. Who does (Musk) think he is?”
A remarkable tale of a 24-year-old man from Mumbai’s streets to the fashion runways is motivating countless dreamers across India. For Sahil Singh, what initially started as various odd jobs to make a living has evolved into a thriving modeling career. This year, he graced the runway for Streax.
Singh’s journey kicked off as a food delivery worker, transitioned to a chef, and eventually led him to model professionally.
In a widely circulated video on social media, Singh documented his incredible transformation. He disclosed that prior to entering the fashion world, he spent two years as a Swiggy delivery agent, then worked for a year as a chef at Burger King, and spent the following eight months at Mango Mart. It wasn’t until after these roles that he secured his first modeling opportunity. His post featured the caption, “Delivery boy to sales executive to MODEL.”
How A Poster Changed His Life?
After leaving school, he undertook various odd jobs to support himself. As a Swiggy delivery agent, he made between Rs 18,000 and Rs 22,000 per month. Nonetheless, his aspiration to become a model remained steadfast. “In 2009, I saw a poster of a model and realized this was my passion. Back then, I was selling wallets on the street. Since 2017, I have been seeking knowledge on how to enter the industry,” Singh told the media.
Despite attending nearly 200 auditions, Singh encountered obstacles due to his height. “At 5 feet 10 inches, I am on the shorter side for a model in India. Even with Streax, I had to continuously ask for the chance to walk the ramp. They agreed, but on the condition that I wear heels,” he explained. Ultimately, he walked the ramp for Streax this year.
Now, Singh serves as a mentor for aspiring models, offering tips and advice on social media. He frequently shares videos on men’s grooming and styling on his Instagram and has recently launched a series aimed at guiding newcomers to the industry.

In an innovative approach to engage with voters and gauge their sentiments, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini travelled to a public meeting venue in a bullock cart during his campaign in Jind district on Wednesday. He shared a video of the experience on X, stating, “The son of a poor farmer knows how to run the government as well as drive a bullock cart.”
Accompanied by Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli, Saini steered the cart while two local women joined him. His security detail was also present. According to a senior BJP leader who spoke anonymously to IANS, Saini’s intention behind riding the bullock cart was to connect with the community and discuss government programs and policies with the women seated beside him.
As part of his campaigning, Saini is traveling extensively across the state, highlighting measures the BJP government has taken to support farmers, Dalits, and the economically disadvantaged, while also responding to the Congress party’s ‘Haryana Maange Hisab’ campaign by accusing the Opposition of misinformation.
With the Election Commission of India (ECI) scheduling legislative elections for 90 Assembly seats on October 1, just two months post-parliamentary elections, political tensions in BJP-led Haryana are escalating. Election results will be announced on October 4. Observers suggest that while the ruling BJP is optimistic about winning a third consecutive term under newcomer Chief Minister Saini—who represents the Other Backward Class (OBC)—it faces challenges due to anti-incumbency sentiments and farmer dissatisfaction.
The Congress, which governed until 2014, appears to have an advantage, rallying support from farmers, traders, and government employees. Senior Congress figure Bhupinder Hooda, a two-time chief minister, is actively campaigning, despite internal party conflicts.
Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has begun its campaign against the BJP, focusing on issues like unemployment, law and order, and the Agnipath scheme. AAP is contesting all seats independently and has introduced the ‘Kejriwal Ki 5 Guarantee’ campaign, which includes promises of free electricity, medical treatment, and education, along with monthly financial support for women and job opportunities for youth.
In the previous Assembly elections in October 2019, the BJP secured 40 seats but fell short of a majority. It partnered with the newly formed Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), led by Dushyant Chautala, who was the deputy to then Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Analysts believe Saini’s appointment as Chief Minister aims to unify non-Jat and OBC votes and mitigate dissatisfaction with Khattar, who led from 2014 until March 2024.
In Haryana’s caste dynamics, Jat support is split among Congress, JJP, and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), with the Jats—who account for around 25 percent of the population—holding significant influence. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has confirmed that the BJP will compete independently in the Assembly elections under Saini.
OBCs represent about 30 percent of the electorate, followed by Jats at 25 percent and Scheduled Castes (SCs) at approximately 20 percent. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the Congress won in three Jat-majority constituencies, with farmers playing a vital role in their success. The party also claimed victories in both SC-reserved constituencies, reflecting its efforts to appeal to both Jat and Dalit communities, bolstered by Hooda’s stature and loyalty within the party.
Last week, for the first time ever, snow completely vanished from Uttarakhand’s Om Parvat, leaving visitors perplexed. Experts pointed to several factors, including low rainfall, scattered snowfall in the upper Himalayas over the last five years, increased vehicular pollution, and global warming.
An official noted that prolonged snowlessness could negatively affect tourism in the area. Fortunately, snowfall on Monday night restored the snow cover at Om Parvat.
Located at approximately 14,000 feet in Vyas valley, Om Parvat is a major tourist attraction known for its snow that forms a pattern resembling the Hindi word “Om,” which is where it gets its name.
“It was really disheartening to see Om Parvat, famous for its snow, completely bare when I visited on August 16,” remarked one visitor. Urmila Sanwal, a local from Gunji village, shared snowless images of the hill, stating, “The ‘Om’-shaped hill was unrecognisable without snow.” Dhan Singh Bisht, who oversees the base camp for the Adi Kailash yatra in Dharchula, expressed, “In my 22 years with Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam, I’ve never seen Mo Parvat without snow.”
Previously, the snow at Om Parvat melted at a rate of 95-99 percent, but this year it vanished entirely, according to a KMVN official. However, following snowfall on August 26, snow has returned to Om Parvat, as noted by Bisht.
Sunil Nautiyal, Director of the GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment in Almora, linked the snow disappearance to increasing temperatures in the eco-sensitive Himalayan regions, driven by a rise in fuel-driven vehicles and overall global warming. He emphasised the need to assess the bearing capacity of vulnerable areas in the high Himalayas and address the impact of rampant forest fires, as the carbon emissions from such fires further harm sensitive ecosystems in the region.

This chatbot doesn’t take a lot of money which, with all of its features and usability, makes it an essential tool for all types of businesses.
Madhya Pradesh’s education system faces serious challenges, mainly due to a significant teacher shortage, especially in rural areas, while urban regions contend with an excess. This imbalance leaves many schools struggling to deliver basic education. Alarmingly, as reported by the Madhya Pradesh government portal, 6,798 schools in the state are managed by only one teacher each, highlighting the difficulties both students and educators encounter.
For example, at a government school in Barwai, a village near Bhopal, a single teacher is responsible for instructing 47 students across grades 1 to 5. The school originally had two teachers, but one was transferred due to government policies deeming the staffing excessive. Consequently, students from five different grades are now learning together in one large room, with the lone teacher trying to teach multiple subjects, including languages, social science, mathematics, and science. Sunita Pathak, the only teacher there, expressed her concerns, stating, “Teaching children from five different classes at once is tough. Each grade has its own subjects, which complicates learning. Without a sufficient number of teachers, how can students succeed?”
Pathak noted that the situation will get worse when she is transferred to another school as a surplus teacher, violating the mandate that requires two teachers in primary schools. The government’s rationalization process aims to ensure that surplus teachers are relocated only if they agree, prioritizing their preferences. Despite Madhya Pradesh having 94,039 government schools and an education budget of Rs 33,352 crore, there are still 36,059 surplus teachers concentrated primarily in urban areas, leading to a gap in rural education.
Efforts are being made to address this problem by reassigning surplus teachers, but the process faces numerous obstacles. “Implementing a plan mid-session makes it impossible to meet deadlines, resulting in systemic failures,” an official noted. While the management of surplus teachers continues, many schools still operate with only one teacher, and in those with two, one is often declared surplus. Dindori district illustrates a unique case where the school principal also serves as the clerk, teacher, and peon.
In a broader context, around 6.5 million students across India fail their board exams, and Madhya Pradesh is notably among the states with the highest failure rates. The significant lack of teachers combined with the uneven distribution of educational resources plays a crucial role in these alarming statistics.
