A woman and her two-and-a-half-year-old son were killed when an under-construction metro pillar collapsed in Bengaluru’s Nagwara on Tuesday. The woman’s husband and a daughter are seriously injured. He has been admitted to the hospital. The woman’s family was going on a bike when the pillar fell on them. Of the woman’s twins, the son lost his life, while the daughter is critical.
Politics has also started on this after the incident. Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar said the tragedy was the result of the functioning of the 40 per cent commissioned government. For this reason, there is no quality left in any work. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The MD of Bengaluru Metro has announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the victim’s family.
According to police, the incident took place around 11 am on the Outer Ring Road near HBR Layout. Lohith Kumar was riding a bike with his wife Tejaswini and their twins. Work on Namma Metro station is underway on the way. The structure of the pillar made of iron rods was being erected for the metro pillar, which fell on his bike.
Tejaswini and her two-and-a-half-year-old son Vihaan died on the spot. At the same time, Lohit and his daughter were seriously injured in the accident. Both the woman and the man were wearing helmets, police said. Bengaluru Metro MD reached the spot after the pillar collapsed. He claimed that his company takes full care of quality in work. He said that only after investigating the case in detail, it will be known whether there is a technical reason behind it or the accident happened due to human error.
