Nagpur, India – A remarkable legacy of classical Indian dance continues to flourish in Nagpur and beyond, thanks to the tireless efforts of Priyanka Biswas, a seasoned Kathak performer and teacher. Carrying forward the 42-year tradition founded by her mentor and mother, the revered Kathak Guru Smt. Deepa Biswas, Priyanka is blending cultural heritage with contemporary education through her flourishing Kathak institution that offers both offline and online classes, including internationally affiliated degree programs.

Founded in Nagpur over four decades ago by Smt. Deepa Biswas, a respected name in Indian classical dance, the academy has nurtured generations of artists who uphold the values of dedication, discipline, and cultural richness that Kathak represents. Deepa Biswas’s recent recognition as one of the “Most Powerful Women Achievers” by Zee News and YOU Talks Magazine is a reflection of her lifelong commitment to the art form. Today, her daughter Priyanka Biswas carries this legacy forward with equal passion and vision, leading the institution into a new era.

“I feel deeply honored to continue my mother’s mission,” says Priyanka. “Her teachings have been the foundation of everything I do. It is my responsibility and privilege to preserve and promote our rich classical traditions in a world where western culture often overshadows them.”

Recently, Priyanka Biswas was honored with the prestigious Women Icon Award 2025 for her outstanding contribution to the field of dance. This recognition adds to her growing list of achievements and underscores the national impact of her work in spreading classical Indian art through both traditional and modern methods.

The institution offers structured, certified degree courses in Kathak, affiliated with an internationally recognized university. These programs prepare students for university-level exams and provide a formal education in the classical art. With students enrolling from across India and internationally, Priyanka’s academy has become a hub for global Kathak learning.

Both offline and online classes are available, making it easier for students from different time zones and backgrounds to access high-quality Kathak training. Despite geographical distances, students receive the same level of attention, discipline, and mentorship that has been the hallmark of the academy since its founding.

The academy has also been featured in various regional and national newspapers and media platforms, celebrating its contribution to India’s cultural landscape. On International Women’s Day, the academy received the Women Icon Award, further solidifying its role as a leader in classical dance education.

In addition to regular training, the academy conducts workshops, performances, and cultural events that not only showcase talent but also raise awareness about Kathak’s significance in Indian heritage. These initiatives foster a deeper appreciation among younger generations and ensure that Kathak remains relevant and respected in modern times.

“Our goal is to build a bridge between tradition and today’s generation,” says Priyanka. “Whether a student joins from Nagpur, Dubai, or the U.S., they’re not just learning dance steps, they’re becoming part of a living tradition.”

With deep roots in classical rigor and a forward-looking approach, Priyanka Biswas is redefining how traditional art forms can thrive in today’s digital, globalized world. Her journey is an inspiring story of resilience, legacy, and innovation.
