New Delhi, Agency.  Women Reservation Bill: There is a debate going on regarding the Women Reservation Bill.  At the same time, now DMK leader Kanimozhi said in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that the Women’s Reservation Bill is not about reservation, but is an effort to remove prejudice and injustice.  He said that women want equal respect.

This bill will be implemented only after the census- Kanimozhi

Participating in the discussion on the constitutional amendment bill ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, he said that the clause related to ‘after delimitation’ should be removed in the bill as it would affect the implementation of reservation for women.  There may be excessive delay.

The 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies proposed in the Bill will be implemented only after the census and delimitation process.

How long will we have to wait to see this bill implemented?- Kanimozhi

He said, how long should we wait to see this bill implemented?  This can be easily implemented in the coming parliamentary elections.  You must understand that this bill is not a reservation but an act to remove prejudice and injustice.

He emphasized that the politics of tokenism should evolve into the politics of ideas.

Equal respect for women – Kanimozhi

He said, this bill is called ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act’.  Stop saluting us.  We don’t want to be saluted, we don’t want to be put on pedestals, we don’t want to be worshipped… we want to be respected equally.

Furthermore, Kanimozhi said that she had no hesitation in admitting that late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha was a very strong woman.  Jayalalitha was the leader of AIADMK, DMK’s rival in Tamil Nadu.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, named the Nari Shakti Vandan Act and introduced in the Lower House by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, will come into force only after the delimitation process is completed and hence, before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.  )) It is not likely to be implemented during.

This bill, introduced in the Lower House on Tuesday, is also the first bill introduced in the new Parliament House.
