WithPro-China leader Mohammed Muizzu as Maldives President, India to  stay and watch

 Considering the inclination of Muizzu towards China,  enterprise is  replete that all the politic and political  leverage that India exercised in Maldives will now be a thing of the  history.

But considering the inclination of the former leader of the opposition towards China,  enterprise is  replete that all the politic and political  leverage that India exercised in Maldives will now be a thing of the  history.

   “ There’s no  mistrustfulness that Muizzu has leanings towards China, but we  misdoubt if he’d be  suitable to, or rather be interested in,  fully sidelining his association with India. That said, China and its presence in Maldives will be in the ascendant, ” said a political critic from manly, wishing  obscurity. Muizzu won the Maldivian presidential bean defeating contestant Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, securing 54 per cent votes against the  ultimate’s 46 per cent.  

 Solih, who belongs to Maldivian Democratic Party, had replaced former President Abdulla Yameen( 2013- 18). Solih was considered India-friendly during his five- time  term and was a close  assistant of India. On the  negative, when Muizzu’s Progressive Party of Maldives was last in power, it had secured heavy Chinese loans for the  islet nation. His government was also  indicted of cracking down on dissent.

 While the five times of Solih’s administration were peaceful and prosperous, the same  sanguinity can not be expressed for Muizzu, due to his affinity with Yameen.   Yameen, who’s  presently serving an 11- time jail  judgment  on charges of corruption, wasn’t justpro-China, but also vehementlyanti-India. The ‘ India out ’  juggernauts kept surfacing at his instigation indeed when he was in jail. Yameen was Muizzu’s tutor and with Muizzu now in power, Yameen’s release is understandably imminent.   India established politic relations with Maldives after its independence from British rule in 1996. In fact, India was one of the first countries to  honor Maldives after independence and develop close strategic and military ties. 

  “ We hope that  effects remain normal between India and Maldives.
