India’s long-standing relationship with Russia gives it the ability to urge President Vladimir to end its war with Ukraine, said White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre.
“We believe India’s long-standing relationship with Russia gives it the ability to urge President Putin, to end his brutal war, an unprovoked war in Ukraine…India is a strategic partner with whom we engage in full and frank dialogue, including their relationship with Russia and we’ve talked about this before,” said Jean Pierre.
“It’s critical that all countries, including India, support efforts to realise an enduring and just peace when it comes to Ukraine. It is for President Putin to end. President Putin started the war, and he can end the war,” the White House Press Secretary added.
Jean Pierre made these remarks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Putin that the “death of innocent children was painful and terrifying, a day after a lethal strike on a children’s hospital in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised India’s efforts to find ways to resolve the Ukraine crisis as he held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His remark came as PM Modi reiterated that India favours peace and “war is not the solution” in a bold message as innocent people continue to lose their lives amid the ongoing strikes in Ukraine.
