Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s statement on Veer Savarkar. Uddhav Thackeray said on Thursday that his party has great respect for Veer Savarkar. And he doesn’t agree with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comment on the freedom fighter. Talking to reporters, Thackeray, who heads a faction of the Shiv Sena, also asked why the Center did not award the Bharat Ratna to Hindutva ideologue Savarkar. Thackeray said that we do not accept Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Savarkar. We have immense respect and faith in Veer Savarkar and it cannot be lost.
On the other hand, the issue of insulting Vinayak Damodar Savarkar has come up in the Maharashtra cabinet meeting. In the meeting, CM Shinde moved a motion of censure against Rahul Gandhi. Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also condemned Rahul Gandhi’s statement. All the ministers said that the insult of Savarkar would not be tolerated.
This statement of Rahul Gandhi has come after Uddhav Thackeray’s son and former Maharashtra minister Aditya Thackeray had joined the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi last week. On the other hand, on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi targeted Veer Savarkar and called him a servant of the British. For this, he also told a letter of Veer Savarkar.
