The Household Consumption Expenditure Survey 2022-23 reveals that over the past 11 years, rural areas have seen a larger increase in consumption expenditure compared to urban areas.

Additionally, the portion of spending on food has decreased during this time period

The latest Household Consumption Expenditure Survey shows that the difference in average monthly spending between rural and urban households has decreased over the years.

In 2022-23, rural households spent an average of Rs 3,773 per month, a significant increase from Rs 1,430 in 2011-12. Urban households, on the other hand, spent an average of Rs 6,459 per month in 2022-23 compared to Rs 2,630 in 2011-12.

This indicates that rural spending has increased more than urban spending during this period. The survey also reveals that the bottom 5% of rural population spent Rs 1,373 on average, while the bottom 5% of urban population spent Rs 2,001.

Additionally, the top 5% of the rural and urban population spent Rs 10,501 and Rs 20,824 respectively. These findings suggest that the gap between the spending of the rich and poor has widened.

The survey also shows changes in spending patterns, with a rise in expenditure on non-food items and a decrease in expenditure on food items.

Moreover, adjusting for the imputed cost of food grains distributed by the government, the average monthly spending was Rs 3,860 in rural areas and Rs 6,521 in urban areas.

The survey, which is conducted every five years, was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the latest results highlight important trends in consumption patterns in rural and urban areas.

Girish Sadhwani,

In a recent conversation with Mumbai-based Sufi artist Girish Sadhwani, we delved into the profound impact of Sufi music on various facets of life. Girish shed light on the captivating synergy between Sufi lyrics, penned by saints and poets, and the transformative power of the music itself.

Sufi music, according to Girish, serves as a conduit connecting listeners to their deeper inner selves. The verses, enriched with spiritual wisdom, resonate on a profound level, offering solace and insight in a world filled with the cacophony of modern life. The poetic depth of Sufi lyrics transcends the ordinary, inviting contemplation and introspection.

Beyond the lyrical beauty, Sufi music possesses a unique ability to heal. Girish emphasizes that it is not merely an auditory experience but a holistic journey that touches the body, mind, soul, and intellect. The rhythmic melodies, combined with soul-stirring verses, create an immersive sonic environment capable of soothing the stresses of daily life.

In a society grappling with the challenges of the modern era, Sufi music emerges as a beacon of tranquility. It provides a respite from the relentless pace of life, offering moments of reflection and rejuvenation. Girish believes that amidst the hustle and bustle, people yearn for a connection to something greater, something that transcends the material world – and Sufi music provides precisely that.

Moreover, Sufi music is a testament to the universality of human emotions. The themes explored in the lyrics, ranging from love and longing to the quest for spiritual enlightenment, resonate across cultures and borders. In an era where divisions seem to dominate, Sufi music acts as a unifying force, reminding us of our shared humanity.

As we navigate the complexities of contemporary existence, the call for Sufi music grows louder. It beckons individuals to pause, reflect, and embrace the timeless wisdom embedded in its verses. Girish Sadhwani’s insights underscore the relevance of Sufi music, portraying it not merely as an art form but as an essential need of the hour – a source of harmony in a discordant world.

Despite initial reports suggesting it was upright, the company behind the landing revealed it may be lying sideways, with its top resting on a small rock.

This landing marked an important milestone as the first American spaceship to reach the Moon since the Apollo era.

The spacecraft encountered challenges during the landing, including a failure in navigation technology that required a hasty solution from ground engineers.

Although some data download issues occurred due to the spacecraft’s position, the mission is still considered a success and sets the stage for future lunar exploration under NASA’s Artemis program.

Approval by the RBI for digital payments to be used for public transportation

The RBI has approved the use of digital payments for public transportation by allowing authorized PPI issuers to issue prepaid cards and wallets for commuters to use across various modes of transport.

This decision aims to provide convenience, speed, affordability, and safety in digital payment options for transit services. Previously, the RBI required issuers to obtain permission before introducing mass-transit payment instruments.

The PPIs for public transport will have a limit of up to ₹3,000, as per RBI regulations. This move is seen as a step towards modernizing transit systems and improving the overall transportation experience for commuters.
