INDIA bloc writes to Meta, Google
In light of exposures made by The Washington Post about the contended part played by Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube in inciting collaborative abomination, the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance( INDIA) has written to the CEOs of Meta and Google — Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai — prompting them to insure that their platforms remain “ neutral ” ahead of the Lok Sabha election coming time.
The bloc advised them not to allow their platforms to be “ used designedly or unwittingly to beget social uneasiness or distort India’s important cherished popular ideals ”. The letters, inked by Congress general clerk( organization) K.C. Venugopal on behalf of the bloc, was championed by Congress chairman Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chairman Rahul Gandhi, and heads of 12 other parties. ‘ Suppressing content ’ In the two letters, the bloc underscored that they represented nearly half of all Indian choosers.
The letters charge both Meta and Google of “ suppressing ” content from the Opposition leaders while promoting that from the ruling party. “ similar blatant partisanship and bias towards one political conformation by a private foreign company is tantamount to snooping in India’s republic, one that we in the INDIA alliance can not but take it seriously, ” a letter said. In case of YouTube, a Google platform, the letter cited The Washington Post composition pertaining to cow vigilante Monu Manesar who entered a “ tableware creator ” award from YouTube. Manesar was arrested on September 12 in a murder case.
“ It’s veritably clear. YouTube is reproachable of abetting social discord and inviting collaborative abomination in India, ” the letter said. In the letter toMr. Zuckerberg, the bloc flagged another composition from the same source which said that “ under India’s pressure, Facebook let propaganda and detest speech thrive ”, laying out substantiation of the platform’spro-government slant in India.
“ This was well- known to us in the Opposition for a long time and have indeed raised it several times in the history, ” the letter said.
