In order to pursue a PhD, students must receive at least 75% of the possible points in their undergraduate degree, or the equivalent, according to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar

Students who have completed a four-year undergraduate degree are eligible to take the NET exam and continue on to pursue a PhD without needing to obtain a master’s degree first.
