After participating in the Conference of Parties-28 (COP28) in Dubai on Friday, Modi landed at Delhi airport late at night. Prime Minister Modi shared a video on  platform X,  highlighting  key moments of the  Global  Climate Action Summit. The video  includes  glimpses of his bilateral meetings and interactions with  world  leaders. During his  visit to the UAE, Prime Minister  Modi noted that climate change  is already having a huge  impact on  the Global South.  

 Here are the latest updates on COP28 SUmmit 2023: 

 A group of 36 countries co-chaired by Germany and Chile aims to  tackle industrial  emissions in an ambitious way. This is  the “Climate  Club”, born  at  last year’s  Group of Seven  Summit  and  officially  launched.  COP28:  how  much  loss and damage  is caused by  climate  change?  

 Vietnam  has announced a  $15.5 billion  spending plan committed by  rich  countries  to  accelerate the transition  away from fossil fuels  under  the  Fair  Energy Transition Partnership or JETP at the  United Nations conference. United Nations on climate change  in Dubai.

  European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said  on Friday that more than 110 countries want the COP28 climate talks to adopt a target of tripling renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency. energy by 2030.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday proposed  hosting  the  United Nations  climate conference in 2028 and also launched a  “green credit initiative”  focused on creating carbon  storage  through  citizen  participation. 

 A loss and damage fund to help vulnerable countries cope with the  impacts  of climate change has been officially launched.  Initial  funding is estimated  at  $475  million: the United Arab Emirates commits  $100 million, the European Union  commits  $275 million,  the United States commits  $17.5  million, and Japan commits 10  million  dollars.

COP28, the annual United Nations (UN) climate meeting,  will be  held  this year  in  Dubai.  Hundreds of world leaders have gathered  at  a major United Nations  climate summit to discuss  the fight against  climate change. The COP28  2023  summit begins  on  November  30  and will continue  until December 12.  

 What is the  goal  of the COP Summit? 

 The Conference of the Parties (COP) to the  United Nations  Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international climate summit  where  world leaders  come together  to  find  solutions  combat  climate change. There are  currently  198 Parties (197 countries plus the European Union)  party  to the Convention, constituting  virtually universal  membership.

COP28 will  maintain  the  target  of limiting long-term global temperature  rise  to  1.5°C.  In 2015, all countries agreed to  keep  this promise in Paris. 

 The  1.5°C  target is crucial to  avoiding  the most  disastrous  impacts of climate change. However, recent estimates  show that  the world is currently on track  to warm by  about  2.4°C  to  2.7°C  by 2100.
