After India’s historic win in the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 internationals.
Rohit and Virat were given extended breaks after the T20 World Cup but were included in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Jadeja, however, was not mentioned, leading to speculation about his future with the Indian team. According to multiple reports, Jadeja has been rested for the Sri Lanka tour, not dropped, and remains in consideration for the Champions Trophy 2025.
India has only six ODI games before the Champions Trophy, three against Sri Lanka starting on August 2 and three in a white-ball series against England in January.
The BCCI has assured Jadeja that he will continue to be India’s primary spin-bowling all-rounder, citing the demanding schedule as the reason for his rest.
Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal, who was in India’s T20 World Cup squad but didn’t play, has not been included in the Sri Lanka T20I or ODI teams. Chahal, who last played an ODI 19 months ago, will need to prove himself in domestic cricket to regain his place.
Chahal has the potential to contribute significantly with his spin bowling, but at 33, he faces the challenge of proving his worth before the three ODIs against England next year.
