The Central Government has launched ‘Operation Kaveri’ to bring back stranded Indians from conflict-torn Sudan.

After the implementation of the ceasefire, the first batch of Indians under the campaign has left from Port Sudan. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, INS Sumedha has left Port Sudan for Jeddah carrying 278 people under Operation Kaveri.

According to media reports, five Indian nationals were evacuated from Sudan on Monday by a French Air Force flight. About 500 people were brought to the French military base in Djibouti through three flights. These people include Indians as well as people from more than 28 other countries.

It is being told that both the generals of the violence-hit South African country Sudan had agreed for a 72-hour ceasefire. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken gave information about this. Ceasefire is going to happen after about 10 days of fighting, hundreds of deaths and exodus of a large number of foreigners. Even before this, an attempt was made to have a ceasefire in both the sides but it failed.
