Globally, seven of the 10 leading causes of death in 2019 were non-communicable diseases. These seven causes were responsible for 44 percent of all deaths, or 80 percent of the top 10. In India, there are about 10 crore hypertension and heart diseases, nine crore respiratory patients, seven crore diabetics, seven lakh cancer patients every year. Every fourth TB patient in the world is an Indian. According to statistics, India has the highest number of mental patients in the world, one out of every three people in India is a mental patient. 18 percent of people who commit suicide have had an unsuccessful suicide attempt in the past.
