From YouTube Shorts to India’s Biggest Gaming Stage: Srishti Parashar’s Rise Reflects the New Creator Economy

Published on

Most people who reach a national stage have someone standing behind them. A family. A manager. A budget. Srishti Parashar had a broken phone.

The content creator and gamer from Sainkheda, Madhya Pradesh — known to her community simply as Sri — has secured a place in Playground Season 5, one of India’s largest gaming reality shows, streaming from August 1 on MX Player by Prime Video. She will compete as part of Tejasswi Prakash’s team, alongside contestants mentored by Elvish Yadav and Aarush Bhola.

For most contestants, this is a career milestone. For Srishti, it is the far end of a road that began in a village where she had nothing, and no one, to fall back on.

A Childhood That Ended Early

Srishti was still a toddler when she lost her father. She was ten when she lost her mother.

What followed was not the story of a girl being raised. It was the story of a girl doing the raising. With no financial support and no safety net, she took on responsibility for her younger brother at an age when most children are still being walked to school. Survival came first. Income came first. Everything else — including her own future — was negotiable.

Education was one of the first things she had to trade away. She finished Class 12 and stopped there. Not for lack of ability, but because someone had to earn, and there was no one else. She has no degree after school. She has never pretended otherwise.

Padhai zaroori thi, par pet usse zyada zaroori tha. That is the arithmetic that decides childhoods in small towns across India. Srishti did that math at an age when she should never have had to.

Leaving the Village

With no opportunity left in Sainkheda, she moved to Indore alone — a teenager in a new city with no contacts, no cushion, and no plan beyond finding work.

She found a job at a shop. It paid ₹10,000 a month.

Out of that, she had to cover her own survival and keep her brother’s education running. There was no room for ambition in that budget. But there was, somehow, room for a phone — an old, damaged handset that barely worked.

That phone became the entire production house.

Building an Audience on a Broken Screen

After shifts at the shop, Srishti started making YouTube Shorts: small, honest, funny observations about ordinary life, in the Hinglish that people around her actually spoke. No camera. No lighting. No editor. No agency. No team.

What she had was a face people believed and a voice people recognised as their own.

The audience came slowly, then not so slowly. Views turned into followers. Followers turned into the first money she had ever earned from something she chose, rather than something she was forced into.

The day that income became reliable, she made the decision that had been waiting years for permission: she quit the shop job and went full-time as a creator.

The Childhood Dream She Refused to Drop

Even after establishing herself, Srishti pivoted — hard — toward gaming, the thing she had wanted since she was a child and could never afford to want out loud.

India’s gaming creator ecosystem is now one of the most crowded and competitive corners of the internet, and entering it as an outsider with no equipment budget was not a soft landing. She built a gaming community from scratch, sharpened her gameplay, and kept going until the country’s biggest gaming platform had a reason to call her name.

That call is Playground.

Competing Under Tejasswi Prakash

Playground Season 5 pits three mentor-led teams against each other over six weeks in a gaming and entertainment reality format, combining gameplay challenges, strategy, creator tasks and team competition, with one contestant emerging as the season’s winner.

Srishti represents the team led by Bigg Boss 15 winner Tejasswi Prakash. The other two teams are mentored by creator Elvish Yadav and fitness entrepreneur Aarush Bhola.

She arrives on that set as the contestant with the least behind her — and, arguably, the most riding on it.

The Venture Nobody Was Told About

Away from the cameras, Srishti has been quietly building something else: a luxury streetwear label aimed at the global market.

Unlike most influencer-led launches, there has been no campaign, no teaser, no announcement. Sources close to the project say the brand is being positioned around limited-edition design and individuality rather than mass production — built the same way she has built everything else: without noise, before anyone was watching.

Why This Story Matters

India’s creator economy is usually described in numbers — subscribers, brand deals, market size. Srishti’s story is a reminder of what those numbers actually unlocked: a path for people who had no other one.

A girl from Sainkheda with no parents, no degree, no capital and no connections built a career on a broken phone while keeping her younger brother in school. There was no discovery moment, no benefactor, no lucky break. There was a shift at a shop, a night of filming, and the refusal to stop.

On August 1, she competes on a national stage.

She got there by herself.
