Seven people were killed and 30 injured when a tree fell on a tin shed in Maharashtra’s Akola on Sunday, police said. The accident took place in Paras village of Akola. Around 40 people had come here to attend a religious program at Babuji Maharaj Sansthan.

According to the information, at around 7 pm, strong winds started blowing with heavy rain. Due to this, a neem tree was uprooted and fell on the tin shed under which all the devotees had gathered. Four people died on the spot, while 36 were hospitalised. Three of the injured died during treatment.

As soon as the incident was reported, the police and rescue-relief team reached the spot and rescued with the help of local people. According to the police, Paras is a village in Balapur tehsil of Akola district. There was a huge crowd of people for aarti and darshan in the evening due to Sunday in the temple of Babuji Maharaj Sansthan here. The aarti began around 7.30 pm in the institute area.

There is a big tin shed outside this temple. Unseasonal rains lashed the district, due to which people passing through the road and devotees stood under the tin shed to avoid the rain. 40 to 50 people were present under the tin shed during the accident.
