Despite national borders, a heart connects them. Ayesha Rashan, a 19-year-old Pakistani girl who had been waiting for a heart transplant for five years, received a new lease on life. On January 31, surgeons at a hospital in Chennai transplanted the heart of a 69-year-old brain-dead donor flown in from Delhi.
“I can breathe easy now,” Ayesha shared. “I plan to finish my schooling in Karachi and pursue a career as a fashion designer.”
