Incidents of violence have been reported in Gujarat and Maharashtra on the occasion of Ram Navami. Stones were hurled during a procession in Gujarat’s Vadodara on Thursday. At the same time, some people set fire outside the Ram temple in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar of Maharashtra late on Wednesday night. They also set fire to police vehicles.
Shortly after the incident in Sambhaji Nagar, a heavy force, including senior police officers, reached the spot. The rioters also hurled stones at them and smashed the glass panes of the car. In such a situation, the police dispersed the crowd by charging batons. Tear gas shells were also fired. The rioters also threw water at fire brigade vehicles.
In Vadodara, some people threw stones at the procession taken out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on Ram Navami. The rioters also vandalised vehicles parked on the road. Shops in the area were closed after the incident, though the situation was brought under control by the police.
