On March 8, International Women’s Day is commemorated with the purpose of supporting and empowering women.

Several state governments in India have introduced programs to tackle the obstacles women face in areas such as education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and social welfare, with the goal of uplifting women.

Let’s take a closer look at key initiatives by state governments for the benefit of women.

The Delhi government has launched a new initiative called the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana. Under this scheme, women residing in Delhi who are 18 years and above with a Voter ID card will receive a monthly financial aid of ₹1,000.

The Uttar Pradesh – Mission Shakti initiative was implemented in stages, encompassing the establishment of Mission Shakti classrooms in all 59,000 Gram Panchayat Bhawans, creation of one lakh women self-help groups, and connecting 1.73 lakh new individuals to the destitute women pension program.

Uttar Pradesh- Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangla Yojana: This cash transfer scheme aims to ensure social security to the girl child.

Uttar Pradesh’s Nirbhaya-Ek Pahal Program aims to connect 75,000 women with state banks, helping them secure loans at lower interest rates and access state subsidies.

In Maharashtra, the Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme provides financial support to one girl child with ₹50,000 for 18 years, and two girl children with ₹25,000 each under their names.

Bihar’s Kanya Utthan Yojana encourages girls to pursue higher education by offering around ₹50,000 until they complete their graduation.

The Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme in Tamil Nadu offers a 50% subsidy of up to ₹25,000 to working women to assist them in purchasing two-wheelers.
