Ban on all tourism and eco-tourism activities at Sammed Shikhar

The Central Government has issued a directive to the Jharkhand government to ban all tourism and eco-tourism activities at the Summit of The Jain community. Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav has shared this official information on his social media on Thursday.

Minister Bhupender Yadav held a meeting with representatives of Jain society in Delhi on Thursday. After the meeting, Yadav said he met members of the Jain community who urged them to protect the sanctity of Sammed Shikhar, a sacred jain pilgrimage site located on parasnath mountain in Jharkhand. He assured them that the Pm Narendra Modi government is committed to protecting and protecting their rights at all religious places of Jain society including Sammed Shikhar. After a meeting with representatives of the Jain community on Thursday, the central government has issued an order in this regard banning all tourism and eco-tourism activities at the pilgrimage site Sammed Shikhar.

In fact, the Jain community was continuously protesting against the declaration of Sammed Shikharji mountain area as a tourist destination of international importance, after which the central government has now taken a big decision. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that tourism, eco-tourism activities have been banned immediately. Sale of liquor, loud music and meat has also been banned in Parasnath area. After this decision, the Jain community has expressed happiness and thanked the government.

What is the whole matter?

In fact, in the year 2019, the central government had announced to declare Sammed Shikharji as an eco-tourism destination. It was recommended by the Jharkhand government. After which in February 2022, the Jharkhand government issued a notification in this regard and Sammed Shikharji was declared a tourist destination. During this time, liquor and meat shops were also allowed to open around the tourist spot, after which a controversy started and the Jain community came down to the movement.
