Attempt to burn priest couple alive in Rajasthan, condition of both critical

An elderly couple was attacked with a petrol bomb to burn them alive in Rajasthan late on Sunday night. The number of attackers is said to be around 10 to 12. The priest and his wife suffered 80 per cent burns in the attack. Both were rushed to a hospital by the police, where the condition of both of them remains critical.

The incident took place in Deogarh police station area of Rajsamand district. According to the information, petrol bombs were thrown in the shop of the priest family late on Sunday night and set on fire. Priest Navratna Lal (75) and his wife Jamna Devi (60), residents of Hira’s Bassi, suffered severe burn injuries in the attack. Who were admitted to Deogarh CHC. Police have detained eight suspects in connection with the case.

It is being told that 10-12 people entered the shop at around 8.30 pm on Sunday and tried to burn alive by throwing petrol bombs on the priest and his wife in front of essar petrol pump on National Highway-8 Kamli Ghat in Devgarh police station area of Rajsamand.

In this attack of miscreants, the priest couple suffered 80 percent burns and the accused fled from the spot. There are also allegations of negligence on the police in this dispute. Pujari’s son Mukesh says a complaint was already made at Kamli Ghat chowki, but there was no hearing. The priest family was having food at the time of the incident. After the incident, Mukesh extinguished the fire with water.
