New Delhi: The Opposition on Monday staged a black protest over the termination of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Parliament membership and the Adani case. It was attended by 17 opposition parties. Congress president Sonia Gandhi also arrived in Parliament wearing black clothes. On the other hand, opposition MPs created a huge ruckus in the Lok Sabha. An MP also waved a black cloth in front of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
In fact, as soon as the proceedings of both the Houses started at 11 am, the opposition started sloganeering. This led to the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha till 2 pm and the Lok Sabha till 4 pm. After this, the Rajya Sabha proceedings started at 2 pm, but due to the ruckus, it was adjourned for the day.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge described the day as a “dark chapter” for democracy. “For the first time, the ruling party is stalling Parliament. Why? Because the dark deeds of Modi ji’s best friend are being exposed! The united opposition will stick to the JPC’s demand. ‘
“Why have we come in black clothes? We want to show that PM Modi is destroying democracy in this country. First they abolished autonomous institutions, then the PM formed his government by intimidating the person who won the election. Those who did not bow down to him, used ED and CBI to bend them. ‘
Mallikarjun Kharge today held a meeting of leaders of opposition parties in his chamber before parliament proceedings began. In this, 17 parties including Congress, DMK, SP, JDU, CPM, RJD, NCP, CPI, AAP and TMC participated.
