Neeraj Chopra’s family expressed immense pride after he won a silver medal in the men’s javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics. Chopra secured the medal with a throw of 89.45 metres on his second attempt, but was unable to claim gold due to four consecutive fouls.

This achievement makes Chopra the second Indian male athlete, since independence, to win two Olympic medals in an individual event. Despite delivering his season’s best performance, he fell short of the gold, which was won by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 metres, surpassing the previous record of 90.57 metres set by Norway’s Andreas Thorkildsen in the 2008 Beijing Games.

Neeraj Chopra’s mother, Saroj Devi, expressed her joy and pride, noting that silver was as good as gold for their family. She also praised Nadeem’s performance, saying she considered him like a son and was looking forward to preparing Neeraj’s favorite meal when he returned home.

Neeraj’s father, Satish Kumar, also expressed pride, acknowledging that it was Pakistan’s day in the javelin event. He speculated that Neeraj’s groin injury might have impacted his performance but emphasized the significance of the silver medal, which he believed would inspire future generations.

In Neeraj’s neighborhood, locals celebrated his achievement by watching the event on a large screen, distributing sweets, and bursting crackers in honor of India’s first silver medal and fifth overall at the Paris Olympics.
