The job cuts  include  Amazon  Music’s  editorial and audio content  teams, sources  familiar with the  matter said.

Amazon.com Inc. is cutting jobs  at  its music division, which  includes  the retail  giant’s  audio streaming platform and digital  song store,  as  CEO  Andy Jassy continues to  cut spending across  the company.

The  positions  targeted  were part of  Amazon  Music’s  editorial and audio content  teams,  said people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because  details are  confidential.  It  is not known exactly  how many  locations  are affected.  “Like many businesses, we  are  closely monitoring our organizational needs and prioritizing what matters most to  our  customers and the long-term health of our  business,”  an Amazon  spokesperson said. I”.  “As a result,  several positions  on the Amazon Music  team have been eliminated.  We will continue to invest in Amazon  Music  and  dedicate  our resources  to  the products and services that matter most to customers, creators, and  artists.

Amazon  introduced  its  largest ever  job cuts last year,  expanding  to 27,000 positions across the company. The cuts  at  Amazon Music began in October, when the  department  eliminated communications  positions  and  were separate  from  previous  layoffs, according to another person familiar with the matter.

The  cuts to Amazon’s  music division  could  signal  a growing  shift  in  focus to another streaming platform: Prime Video. The  consumer-facing  video product  currently powers  the National Football  League’s  Thursday Night Football games and could be another tailwind for the retail giant  going forward.

“We also  increasingly believe  that Prime Video can be  an important  and profitable business in its own  right,  as we continue to invest in  exclusive content  that is attractive to  Prime members,” Jassy said last month  at Amazon’s  third-quarter earnings call.
