Voting for the first phase of Gujarat Assembly elections is over. The voting time was till 5 pm. Polling began at 8 am. On Thursday, 89 of the total 182 assembly seats in Gujarat went to polls in the first phase. It includes 19 districts of Saurashtra-Kutch and south part. The fate of 788 candidates will be decided in the first phase.
The Election Commission said that the final figures of voting are awaited and 57 percent voting has been recorded till 5 pm. Barring a few stray incidents and a few complaints of EVM malfunctioning, the polling process, which began at 8 am, was more or less peaceful. The second phase of assembly elections will be held on December 5 and the counting of votes will take place on December 8. The results will also be declared on the same day.
Polling began on Thursday at 14,382 polling stations in Gujarat, including 3,311 urban and 11,071 rural areas. Live webcast was done from 13,065 polling stations to monitor voting.
