The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mandated a thorough testing of spices from all brands in the country after certain spice blends from MDH and Everest were banned in Singapore and Hong Kong for containing high levels of ethylene oxide (ETO), a harmful pesticide linked to cancer risks.
Inspections, sampling, and testing at all spice manufacturing plants, especially those making curry powders and mixed spice blends, have been ordered by the regulatory authority.
