A 33-year-old man in Noida, launched Jan Rasoye, an initiative to support daily wage workers and their families, which aims to provide affordable, home-cooked meals to those in need.
What Inspired 33-Year-Old Vidit Sharma To Start Jan Rasoye?
Every morning on his way to work, would see a troubling scene: daily wage workers waiting outside Noida’s government hospital, looking worn out and overwhelmed by the weight of their responsibilities and rising medical expenses. These individuals, despite their own struggles, were dedicated to ensuring their loved ones inside the hospital received the best care. However, in doing so, they often neglected their own basic including something as essential as food.
Seeing their plight, Vidit felt compelled to do something to help them. In 2024, he launched Jan Rasoye, a venture that help in providing hot, nutritious, home-cooked meals to those in need for just Rs 5. The menu includes rajma chawal, chole chawal, and dal chawal.
When asked why he chose not to offer the meals for free, Vidit told The Better India, “People should not feel that they are having it for free. They feel happy giving some amount of money.” This nominal fee helps maintain the dignity of those receiving the meals, ensuring they feel valued and self-reliant.
Jan Rasoye currently serves around 700 plates of food every day. With a dedicated team of ten, Vidit has ambitious plans to increase this number to 3,000 plates daily and to extend his services to various hospitals across Noida. His goal is to provide hygienic, home-cooked food to labourers who toil tirelessly but often miss out on essential nutrition.
“Seeing the gratitude in their eyes fills our hearts with immense joy. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of many. These meals are full of love and much -needed providing hope and sustenance to those who need it most,” said Vidit.
