Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, is currently incarcerated, and his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), is facing a ban. Despite his limited ability to engage in politics, Khan has put forth his application for the position of chancellor at Oxford University in Britain.

His request was “formally submitted” through Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari, the London-based spokesperson for Khan’s PTI, as shared on X, a social media platform. Khan is an alumnus of Oxford, having studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Keble College from 1972 to 1975.

The PTI’s post stated, “Pakistan’s national hero and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the founder and chairman of Pakistan’s largest political party PTI, a cricketing icon, a philanthropist, and an Oxford graduate, is seeking the role of Chancellor of Oxford University while imprisoned.”

It emphasised that “Despite being unjustly jailed for over a year, Khan remains dedicated to his beliefs and causes. Zulfi Bukhari has confirmed the formal submission of the application.”

This development follows the announcement in February by Chris Patten, the last British governor of Hong Kong, that he would resign from his position as chancellor of Oxford. The university indicated that candidates for the 10-year term will not be revealed until October.
