New Delhi, Business Desk: India’s largest and budget airline IndiGo has announced a codeshare partnership with UK’s British Airways.

Under a codeshare agreement, airlines agree to sell seats on each other’s flights to provide a broader network to their respective customers.

In simple language, if you have ever bought a ticket from a particular airline and when you reach the airport, you are sent to the check-in desk of a different airline, then it is called codeshare i.e. the airline with which you booked the ticket.  Now you will travel not with that airline but with the airline at whose check-in desk you have checked-in.

Code sharing is one way airlines try to improve the customer experience, among other things.

Indigo also has partnership with these airlines

Indigo Airlines currently partners with Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, American Airlines and Air France.  There is a codeshare partnership with.

British Airways adds three new routes after codeshare

With this codeshare partnership with IndiGo, British Airways will now be able to add three additional routes to its existing network.  First from Rajkot to London Heathrow via Mumbai, second from Vadodara to London Heathrow via Mumbai and third from Thiruvananthapuram to London Heathrow via Mumbai.

British Airways said that

All British Airways customers travelling with IndiGo can enjoy free meals

 Customers will get these facilities

Under the codeshare, the British airline will also allow baggage allowance of up to two bags of up to 23 kg per person in economy for flights to India.  Currently, British Airways is operating 56 flights every week from these five cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

When will you be able to travel?

Booking of tickets for codeshare flights for travel from October 12 onwards has started from tomorrow i.e. September 21, subject to government approval.
