At least 22 people were killed when a tourist boat capsized in Kerala’s Malappuram district on Sunday, police said. According to media reports, there were more than 30 people in the boat. It is being told that most of the dead are children and women. After the accident, 5 people in the boat swam to the shore. A total of 10 people have been admitted to Kottakal hospital in critical condition. The accident took place near Tuvaltiram beach in Tanur area of Malappuram district around 7 pm on Sunday.

The Kerala government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased. The government has also ordered an inquiry into the incident. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but it is being told that more people were seated in the boat than capacity and there were not as many life-jackets.
