The Election Commission has announced the dates for elections in three northeastern states tripura, nagaland and meghalaya. The Election Commission said on Wednesday that elections in the three states will be held in two phases. Tripura will go to polls on February 16, while Meghalaya and Nagaland will go to polls on February 27. The counting of votes will take place on March 2. There will be more than 9000 polling stations in the three states. Of these, 376 will be operated entirely by women.
With the announcement of the election dates, the code of conduct has also come into force in the three states. The term of the Nagaland Assembly ends on March 12, in Meghalaya on March 15 and that of Tripura on March 22. While the BJP has its own government in Tripura, the BJP is part of the coalition government in Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that the notification for Tripura elections will be issued on January 21. The last date for filing nominations is January 30 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 2. The notification will be issued in Meghalaya and Nagaland on January 31. The last date for filing nominations in both the states is February 7. The last date for withdrawal of candidature in Meghalaya and Nagaland is February 10.
