There comes a point in an artist’s journey when being able to perform is no longer enough. The desire to create, express and put something entirely personal into the world begins to take over. For singer Kavya Limaye, that moment marked the beginning of a journey she had never previously imagined: becoming an original music artist.
After singing and performing since the age of four, Kavya has spent most of her life building a relationship with music and audiences. Yet releasing an original song was something she had not actively envisioned until about a year ago. It was a gradual shift in perspective, driven by the feeling that perhaps there was a larger purpose to her musical journey.
She began thinking about the stories she wanted to tell, the experiences she wanted to share and the kind of connection she wanted to establish with listeners. Performing had given her the opportunity to interpret music and connect with people. Original music, she realised, could give her the opportunity to let people into her own world.
But taking that leap came with questions.
Should she really start creating music of her own? Was this the right direction? Would she be able to translate her thoughts and emotions into songs that connected with people?
Eventually, the desire to explore this new creative identity became stronger than the uncertainty. Kavya decided to trust her instincts and give her ideas a chance.
The result is Peecha Chhodo, her first-ever original pop single, and a project that marks several personal firsts. Not only has she sung the song, but she has also composed it for the first time and co-written its lyrics with Shivansh Jindal. The track has been produced by Anshuman Sharma.
The creative process began with an unexpected melody. Kavya was listening to Ariana Grande at home when a tune suddenly entered her head. It stayed with her, prompting her to immediately share it with her collaborator. Along with the melody, she communicated the emotions she felt the tune carried.
The first two lines soon followed, and the two began developing the song together. The collaboration evolved organically, with the initial melody becoming the foundation for the song’s composition and lyrics. Once they had a substantial draft, Kavya took it into production, transforming their ideas into a complete pop record.
The song blends Hindi and English, drawing from contemporary pop sensibilities while retaining a personality that feels distinctly Kavya. Its title, Peecha Chhodo, hints at a playful, assertive attitude, while the track itself reflects a part of the singer’s own personality and life experiences.
What makes this release particularly meaningful is the number of creative boundaries Kavya is crossing simultaneously. For the first time, she is not just the voice behind a song but also one of the minds responsible for creating it. She is also making her debut as a featured performer in her own music video.
The video brings a colourful, girly, sassy and unapologetically pop aesthetic to the project. Being part of the shoot was an emotional experience for Kavya. Watching an idea that had originated in her living room evolve into a full-scale creative production, with an entire team working to bring it to life, felt almost surreal.
It was a reminder of how far a single moment of inspiration could travel when given the confidence and commitment to grow.
For Kavya, this is also about redefining what her future as an artist can look like. She wants her music to become a space where she can be vulnerable, playful, expressive and experimental. Rather than limiting herself to one particular identity, she hopes to explore different sounds and stories with every release.
Peecha Chhodo therefore represents much more than a debut. It is the first tangible expression of a creative decision that took courage and a willingness to step outside familiar territory.
Kavya Limaye has spent years finding ways to connect with audiences through her performances. Now, she is beginning to build that connection through her own compositions and stories.
