With little left to lose and a passion to rebuild, the couple embarked on a new journey: the food business.
They established Guru Sweets, a modest sweet shop in Rajapalayam. Armed with traditional recipes and a deep understanding of local flavors, the shop quickly gained popularity for its mouthwatering wheat halwa, laddu, badusha, jahangir, and Mysore pak. The overwhelming response not only lifted their spirits but inspired them to dream bigger.
In 1978, Raja expanded operations to Bengaluru, launching Srinivasa Sweets. Once again, their devotion to quality and authenticity paid off, winning the hearts of customers in Karnataka’s capital. But the real turning point came in 1980, when Raja, alongside his son KT Venkatesan, opened Shri Anand Bhavan in Royapuram, Chennai.
This Royapuram shop laid the foundation for what would become the iconic Adyar Ananda Bhavan, a name now synonymous with tradition, taste, and trust.
