Following the nationwide anger over the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata, a similar incident has surfaced in Uttarakhand, where a 33-year-old nurse was reportedly raped, suffocated, and robbed.
The nurse, who resided in Bilaspur Colony with her 11-year-old daughter and worked at a private hospital in Nainital, went missing on July 30. Her family reported her disappearance on July 31, leading to an investigation. After more than a week, her body was found in an abandoned area in Uttar Pradesh’s Dibdiba and sent for post-mortem examination.
On August 14, a significant development occurred in the case when the police arrested the main suspect, Dharmendra, a labourer from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. According to reports, Dharmendra enticed the nurse to a secluded location, where he allegedly raped, choked, and robbed her of her jewelry.
Authorities were able to locate Dharmendra by reviewing CCTV footage that captured the victim’s last known movements in a tempo. The victim’s stolen phone also helped in identifying the suspect.
During interrogation, Dharmendra admitted to the crime, stating that his intention was to rob the nurse and that he committed the heinous acts to cover his actions.
