A software engineer at Google, Christina Ernst, has developed a unique “robotic dress” featuring four 3D-printed snakes. One snake utilizes Al technology to detect faces and is programmed to mimic the movements of a snake head in response to the person looking at the wearer.

Ernst, who also founded shebuildsrobots.org to encourage young girls to build robots, showcased her “robotic Medusa dress” on Instagram. She explained the process of creating the dress in a video, mentioning how she used Al to make the snake head move towards observers.

Ernst detailed her design journey, including failed prototypes, and demonstrated how she integrated the snakes with motors, inspired by automata toys. To keep the dress lightweight, she minimised the number of motors and attached them securely to the fabric.
