India and Bangladesh are set to inaugurate a new bus service connecting Kolkata and Chittagong

Published on

India and Bangladesh have agreed to launch a new bus service connecting Kolkata and Chittagong, as announced by Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra on June 22. This new route complements the existing bus service operating between Kolkata and Dhaka. Additionally, there are five other cross-border bus routes in operation between the two countries. The bus services were reinstated in 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, including a new route from Agartala to Dhaka via Kolkata. The aim is to strengthen tourism and bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. During the recent meeting, 10 MoUs were signed and seven announcements were made, including the formation of a joint technical committee to discuss the renewal of the Ganga water treaty. Furthermore, India will be assisting in the conservation and management of the Teesta river in Bangladesh. This partnership highlights the importance of managing common rivers for both nations. Sheikh Hasina’s state visit to India was part of the ongoing high-level political engagement between the two countries, with her attendance at the Union Council of Ministers swearing-in ceremony being a noteworthy event.
