Supreme Court States Hindu Marriage is Invalid Without Required Ceremonies

The Court noted that a Hindu marriage transcends mere “song and dance,” “wining and dining,” or commercial dealings, emphasizing that it cannot be deemed valid without the proper ceremonies prescribed under the Hindu Marriage Act. 

Justices BV Nagarathna and Augustine George Masih described Hindu marriage as a ‘samskara’ and a sacred institution, highlighting its significant value in Indian society.
