The most recent World Health Organization report on hepatitis states that it has now become the second most significant infectious cause of death worldwide, with 1.3 million deaths in 2022, equalling tuberculosis, another leading infectious killer.

The Hepatitis A virus is transmitted through close personal contact with an infected individual, ingestion of contaminated food or drink, or even through microscopic amounts of the virus.

It is important to note that although the virus can be present in saliva, it is not spread through activities like kissing or sharing utensils.

India ranks among the top 10 countries in the world with two-thirds of the global disease burden.
